On the internet, do you sound different from who you are?

I think I sound calmer and more grown-up online than I am in real life. Perhaps it's because I abhor exclamations marks, or perhaps because you can't hear my overly girly voice.

If someone's first contact with me is through writong then they usually think I am quite intelligent. If their first contact is in person they usually think I'm a total ret*d.

Very different. By Germans in German forums I get told that I sound educated and intelligent, very put together and even interesting. No idea where they got this from, but I get told this a lot.
With lots of effort, I can do that in real life as well. Not a whole day long, but several hours if I feel really good and healthy.

The reality is that at home when I let all my concentration go, calm down and enjoy the peace I sound horrible. I fail at speaking out loud the words I search for, screw pronunciation, my sentences structure isn't at all structured and I realise what an effort speaking actually is. My mom can testify that I'm speaking the truth... barely anybody wants to believe how intense the change actually is. I'm always trying hard not to let any language issues shine through, but I'm bound to fail and I realised that a few weeks ago.
I'll have to figure something out.

I'm more verbally articulate online than I am IRL. Though I have a large vocabulary I don't always use it in my everyday vernacular. Mainly because my natural speaking rhythm is like the Micro Machines man and I have to force myself to speak v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y so the frigging NT's around me can understand what I say. I could probably talk just like I do online if I was allowed to talk in my rhythm! But NOOOO I have to talk slower than my mind is going so my verbal vocabulary is really simple.

It's like, if I wanted to talk about how "The dog ran down the street, jumped off the curb and knocked over the trash can." -- well, by the time I'm saying "The dog" my mind is already on "the trash can" and my speech flops as I try to catch up with my brain. I can't say one thing and think another. So it might come out as "The dog knocked the can". PLUSSSSSSSSSSS there is also the issue of coordinating my brain, mouth, tongue and vocal cords to work together and THAT isn't always successful either.

Sooooooo frustrating! At least I can type as fast as I think and it takes less "effort".

I'm more myself in the internet than in the 'real life' where I'm basically on a survival mode. Still, doesn't give a good image of who I really am. I think this goes for many others too.

Exactly. People I come in contact with in the internet usually comment about thinking me as somekind of a genious while outside this cyber world I'm basically considered to be an idiot. In reality? Don't see myself as exactly either.

Absolutely I do. I'm more prosy online, and I'm pretty different from who I am IRL. When my internet life and IRL life mix, it really bugs me and causes problems. Normally I get frozen with indecision.

When I'm typing, I use bigger words and such. But when I'm talking, I use simpler words so that it doesn't fly over people's heads. Plus the flow of conversation is different from typing, so I don't wanna stand there thinking of what words to use...

I think I am much more articulate in writing than I am when I'm speaking. Otherwise, I am the same person on the net as I am in real life. I go to sites where I can indulge my interests without fear of being thought of as weird.

I sound the same either way. I'm very pedantic sounding in real life except that I have this voice like a little girl so people tend to be very surprised that I'm that way. I tend to offend without meaning to just as much online as irl.

I am quite articulate in both cases.

In real life I am a lot more quieter than I am online.
People online have told me that I seem like an outgoing person, where in real life, people tell me I am quiet and quite shy.

Also, online sometimes people mistake me for being a "know-it-all" type of person...in real life...well I have to admit that it's no different .
Online, I am more able to express myself, but in real life I don't talk about my feelings a lot as I find most of the time it's hard to.

In real life, I tend to be SUPER soft spoken, and I tend to find it harder to express my thoughts. Online, however, I'm quite the opposite. Also, whatever ideas I have to communicate tend to be misinterpreted more often in person than online.
