Does that make us the A-Men?

The X-Men were named not for their founder "Charles Xavier" but for the X-factor in their genetic code that makes them different from the rest of humanity.

So we would still just be "X-Men" even if Tony Attwood was our Professor X
But think... A. Tony Atwood. Hans Asperger. Autism.

Asplanet, did you really? :)

I didn't really, I was already 16 or 17 when he diagnosed me, but it helped.

You were lucky to have been diagnosed by him... how did you meet him? Were you ome of the lucky ones he studied? Did anything you said contribute to any of his books? :D

No. I was being counselled by one of his proteges. She referred my mother to Dr Attwood. I'd never even heard of Asperger's, never mind Autism until then. I don't think I have ever been studied though, but he was a nice guy.

Was he really really nice? He wasn't snooty, or anything??

Of course he bloody was. I just said that. Plus he was amused that I had him mixed up with a different guy.

I don't trust him entirely because I've seen where he sucks up to or sympathizes with the poor long suffering wives of Asperger's men. He does it in a way that seems false, because he says things to the wives about autistics that he wouldn't say to the autistics to their faces. That was my impression of him years ago.

I don't think he's the worst thing out there, but I just don't trust him entirely.

Hi Dr. Attwood! (assuming he's tuning in here)

Quartermass,

Do you want me to say something pleasant about him that I don't believe now? Something that will soothe a ruptured social contract or something? :D

Have you seen what he writes to the "pitiful, long suffering wives of AS males" (tm)?

No. But have you met him?

Seriously, how many people on this board have met him? Very few.

And how many people on this board have actually been diagnosed by him personally? I'm the only one as far as I know.

I'm sure he's lovely. Loverly even. I'm sure he's a great diagnostician. Does this give him a pass on saying things to the wives of AS men that he wouldn't say to AS men (or women) directly?

I'll have to go dig up some of his stuff (what I am referring to is probably 3 years old, so maybe he's changed).

He's also not a world class researcher but more of a pop star kind of a guy. I'd like to meet him, get his autograph, etc. :)
