one lady just nuclear enema’d me

 That was funny!

But anyway, I too was "nuclear enema'd" by someone at a non-aspie forum. That happened mainly because I have a tendency to say what's on my mind (mostly unintentionally, but at times intentionally too) without giving much thought to how obnoxious/offensive it sounds. I subsequently decided to stop posting on that forum.

Over time, I have had to "train" myself to keep most of my opinions to myself, as they might be perceived as obnoxious by some people. But regardless, there are lots of difficult people on the internet who will gladly tear you a new one.

I was banned from an Oasis Asperger's forum, but I'm a moderator over at www.sciforums.com . There are a couple aspies over there. The Oasis format is so ponderous anyway... I think aspies can be less tolerant than NTs sometimes.

Cults bjesus Monty I was just thinking about this and if you google cult traits, wow funny I was thinking this same thing. Wow. I suffer too from over honesty and not thinking what I post could be offensive, and of cousre I am told repeatedly to use more emoticons to soften my post.

Well EvilKim from your post obviously your very literate so perhaps that helped. The sense of humor thing, okay I don’t consider myself stupid and score just fine on IQ tests but often I don’t get the joke or get it quickly or at all and I am often attacked for no sense of humor, although I do think I have one, how in the hec can we trust our own judgements or is it just an NT mindset or the whole darn thing is subjective.

I'm the same way. I have a sense of humor, but it doesn't come across well in print. In fact, it tends to offend people. I don't always get NT jokes either, especially the more abstract, indirect ones with pop-culture references. I think NTs often use these jokes to assess people's intelligence. Therefore I am perceived as stupid despite more scientifically based evidence to the contrary. :?

Yeah, I don't use the expected amount of emoticons either. I've grown to appreciate the old-fashioned forums where emoticons don't exist. Viewing each post individually gets annoying, but at least there isn't a flashing, dancing smiley face after every sentence.

I haven’t been beaten up per say, but I have been belittled and poked fun at. In the end, it turned out a bit better on my end. The one who launching an assault against me turned out to be a fraud with multiple accounts attempting to make it look as though she was one person with many friends.

On the negative side, a few of the legit, younger members haven’t gotten the message yet about the fraud that has not bothered to show her face since being ousted. To them, I’m still the b***h that chased off the ‘nice people‘. It always nice to know that there's someone out there more naive than I am.

Most of the forums I spend time on are non-AS and full of what seem to be kids and younger adults who haven't a clue about spelling or grammar. The older members I can somewhat get along with as long as I mind my manners.

I have never been beat up, but at AspergerInfo.com, I have had people notice little typos that I made. I believe I am generally an articulate person. This person was an articulate writer as well, but made his share of mistakes. I understand why he did it, but it was irritating at the time. I am glad I left that forum. It was very depressing in other ways.

That's been true for me, and I'd add that I've been accused of being all kinds of nasty things, like a pharma shill and not really an autistic... even recently on the Autism Speaks board where I am afraid to post because of the person I consider to be a cyber stalker over there who kept posting more and more details about my kid that s/he picked up from posts to an old Yahoo! group or from another stalker who probably picked it up there. She scares me for real. And that's why I'm not posting over there. She'd take anything I wrote and twist it around into an insult or veiled threat, against me or someone I like.

Why? You're effectively endorsing its existence by continuing to darken its doors.

Cant say ive been beaten up on a forum. Its not a very good idea to get into a logic war with someone with AS. If thier argument isn't logical its easy to destroy it using logic as a weapon.

Yep. I never knew why I was a target, until I learned I had AS.

The whole instantly getting accused of being someone else thing on top of the ludicrous preteen hostility of most boards keeps me very shy on the web.

Because I need an outlet outside of my own Wiki on special interests. And a source of info on certain matters.

Why were you banned?
