While I think that people with aspergers can excel at nearly any field (excluding those that require exceptional social skills), people with aspergers usually tend to be very capable at either the sciences/math/engineering, or the creative fields(art, etc)

So I am not surprised then, that you find that aspergers and artistic skill seem to go together (at least for you)

I don't drive either.

I had this sudden burst of self confidence last October and haven't looked back. Started painting like crazy after not lifting a brush or pencil for years, then had weeks at home after hurting my spine at work. Painted some more, then quit my monkey job at Xmas and have been painting ever since. I just emailed Peter Garrett and asked if he'll sit for a portrait I can enter in the Archibald Prize next year.

I might be going out on a limb here, but at least I'm doing what I always wanted to do.

Some Aspies are artistic, it's just another catagory of 'special interests'. If you are creative though, then definately go for it. It's your focus and attention to detail that will make you a successful artist.
I make a pretty good living painting scenery for theatre and film. And I didn't really study art when I was younger, I just kind of got into it. But if I didn't live in a big city, then I couldn't make a living at it. And of course, I had to climb the ladder and volunteer at the beginning, but it was worth it.
Good luck! :)

I can't draw a straight line either. But I have done ok with some art because I avoid the drawing/painting classes and go for art classes where they don't grade on technique... for me, art is about making people see something. It is about ideas and creativity. If art were just pretty pictures of nature, I wouldn't have a chance.

I've always thought there are two kinds of autism: "Mathmatic Autistic" and "Artistic Autistic" (how cool does that last one sound?) I'm very much the Artistic Autistic. Numbers don't make sense to me, but to my autistic uncle they are everything. Though I don't like abstract, it makes my little autie brain hurt.
