The man with one face topic

Ludwig Wittgenstein, logical positivist philosopher/one-time protege of Bertrand Russell. :)

He may have been Aspie. Wrote about pictorial thought. Thought the study of logic would end philosophical debate/discussion. He certainly did not score well in human relations, as he was not an inspiring or caring role model. Not like Tim_Tex.

Wrote Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Influenced later computer logic and its applications due to attention to strict exacting language.

I've heard of a story involving him, Karl Popper, and Bertrand Russel in which Wittgenstein was so enraged by a lecture Popper was giving that he took a red-hot poker out of a fireplace and started pointing it menacingly at Popper, at which point Russel goes "Ludwig, put down that poker," after which Wittgenstein furiously stormed out of the room. The man was also suicidal at times, there was one incident while he was attending college in which Russell saved Wittgenstein's life when the latter was about to jump out of a window. 8O

And I agree that he was quite likely an Aspie. He was an extremely fascinating person whose philosophy, IMO, the logical positivists didn't really understand. He seems to have been saying that there as some aspects of reality that cannot be shared in a logical, objective way because logic and objectivity requires language. "The limits of our language mark the limits of our world." and "Of what one cannot speak one must remain silent." to quote Wittgenstein himself. It is a quite Kantian approach that I can agree with to a degree.

I thought he looked as though he was in shock and terribly sad as if he had just heard some news that was very disturbing to him. But maybe he had just turned in a paper for publication and then suddenly realized there was a serious flaw in his logic.

My initial reaction was generic default face devoid of any discernible emotion. Nothing attractive or off putting about it. I did not find it uncomfortable or scary. But it wasn't the most pleasant face.

If I saw him on the street I wouldn't say hello. But then again, I don't really say hello to people on the street so that isn't saying much at all.

Maybe Professor Ludwig has more than one face topic

Such a young man, Odin, and you are aware of the not so Witty man!

Yes, Ludwig did coin those phamous phrases. There have been amendments to mean what cannot be said must be shown (pictorially). I have always condemned the silent approach as not very salient.

I have always been fascinated by Wittgenstein. He was quite the character, very moody and short-tempered. He once convinced one student to give up philosophy studies and to go to work in a factory. I do not know why that student did not work in a factory and still study philosophy, as I did.

He's got the big eyes and the low ears. He seems like he's off, in his own little world.

He looks like he finds the idea of being photographed boring and pointless. I think that's a "Let's get this over with" expression.

His expression makes him look like he is someone who spends a good deal of time thinking about the state of the world. I do not find him scary, based on this view.

Everyone makes assumption. I understand the reason not to hastly judge, but I prefer to prejudge first and then have the person contradict my assumptions.

Just another grainy picture and not scarey at all.
