*Why* is it orange? Orange is the only color that I absolutely abhor...it is the color of a migraine headache caused by too many people and too much noise/overload... The color almost makes me feel nauseous... I do not think I could bear to wear anything orange where I could see it, esp. on a daily basis! 8O

Otherwise, I'm not opposed to the idea...though it seems to me that there are many un-dx'ed aspies, and that I tend to naturally gravitate towards these types anyway. But, I really am curious: from whence did the custom of this bracelet being orange arise?

One can get orange awareness bracelets from lots of places on the net and most Culverts Resturants as they are selling them as **Matthew bracelets** (I have no idea why)

The problem with a plain orange bracelet is that Orange also stands for Lung Cancer Awareness, Leukemis Awareness and Cultural Diversity Awareness. I even found one site that said Orange was for *Faith.*

I really, really like the blue with puzzle pieces but thats Austism in general, not Aspergers. Also, as has been discussed, lots of people dislike the puzzle ones.

Edited to add: Opps! I didn't realise this was an older thread. You can do a google on retail+orange+awareness+bracelets and lots of places pop up.

The puzzle piece ones are available
http://www.pinmart.com/catalog.cfm?cat=50
And other places as well.

The site this thread refers to suggests using rope or plastic and making your own bracelet.

Yes, BeeBee, I agree.

1. Childhood Diabetes
2. Lupis
3. Childhood Cancer
4. Livefree Smokefree Awareness
5. WE CARE Tsunami
6. I AM ABLE (meant for all disablities)
7. Multiple Sclerosis

These are all orange bracelets. BUT has anyone considered maybe wearing a combination of TWO bracelets with two different colors? The combination could equal the Aspergian community colors. Perhaps two colors which are more agreeable to ourselves as well as perhaps two less popular colors than those which are being used atm for all these awareness bracelets (i.e., red, yellow, pink, blue, purple, green, orange-- all the standard and fairly uncreative colors).

And maybe even incorporating the symbols spoken of earlier on one of the bracelets if we wish.

Would there be copyright issues with these symbols?

One can buy double bracelets...sort of lopped together? Appearently Nike is marketing black and white ones as racial peace awareness.

Have you seen the double ones? They look really rather neat.

I really rather prefer wearing two jelly bracelets at one time. I have a couple of the Autism ones atm, and wearing one alone makes my wrist feel naked for some reason.

Although this is an interesting discussion, its kind of moot for me. I don't wear bracelets.

Anyway, if someone wants a great deal on orange bracelets this place is giving 100 of them for a $35 US donation to a Tsumami releif agency. They are the "We care" ones.

I most prefer the "I AM ABLE" disability bracelet, and have ordered one. If interested, there are a few floating around on eBay under the keywords bracelets awareness. There are many items listed under this, so be ready for a more tedious search. Currently, I see 1234 items listed.

I don't really have any "bracelets" but when I came across that site a few months ago I went looking around for some thread or something I could put around my wrist and behold, exactly what I was looking for right in the closet. I had it on for a few months but I often tried to hide it (I have problems with embarresment on stuff I wear) so I wound up taking it off. I should probably buy a real one because this one was sort of loose.

Never liked bracelets. Or wristbands, watches, necklaces, (stereotypical) etc. How about something you draw on your wrist. Or a tatoo if it becomes a popular thing. Lot's of aspies don't like wearing things on their wrist. No offense, but orange is..ughh... :? A different design would be nice.

Just some thoughts. :D

I bought a red bracelet for MS, because the neurologists think our oldest daughter (22) may have MS. The bracelet says HOPE on it.

It's too big for my wrist and annoys me. My kids play with it.

With the popularity of those plastic colored bracelets these days who's to know if an orange bracelet means "aspie" or just happens to coordinate with what the person is wearing at the moment?

The same can be said of almost all of the single-colour bracelets. I think every colour has been used by at least three or four major charities for different afflictions. The local high schools gave out blue "safe grad" bracelets this year, which means the original blue autism bracelets may as well be invisible. I ordered a few of the bracelets with the coloured puzzle pieces embedded in them from EBay. At least these will stand out a bit more.

Very good Jetson! Ebay is cheaper on orders of 10 or less of the puzzle bracelets than the place I found. Larger orders are cheaper at the other place thought, because of the order discounts and shipping is free with 12 or more.

btw, What do you do if you find a person who's also wearing the orange bracelet? As in what should I say? Asking "Are you an aspie too?" would just be too direct and odd.

I'd do the same thing I do when I see someone wearing any other bracelet (other than yellow), which is to ask "What does that bracelet mean to you?" Or like the once case where I saw a cashier wearing a blue one and could make out the word embossed in it (so I knew it wasn't about autism) and asked "What does [the word] mean"?
