I like my given name, but I think my nickname is a bit childish to use in public. On the Internet, I use my given name on the Siamese site, but not on WP. I don't want anyone at work reading these posts and discovering my real name. If people saw the names of my cats, they would probably figure out it's me.

I seem to have a speech impediment for JUST ONE WORD - my surname! It's an ordinary English word but, whether I say it when giving my name or just using it as the normal word, my mouth stumbles over it and people usually think I've said something quite different. Grrr!

I don't let people call my by my name - HATE the sound of it. "Ollie" I can put up with, but there's just something about the way the name "Oliver" stumbles off the tongue that I can't stand.

I hate addressing myself or other people.
I hate it when other people address me.
It's just too much.

I have a horribly unusual name and I never use it. When people mangle it and ask me how to pronounce it, I tell them that I pronounce it and then use my nickname. They usually feel kinna dumb. Which is okay. I'm weird enough without the added bonus of a weird name.

I hate to use any terms of endearment to anyone. They all sound artificial and some of them (even normal, everyday ones) just make me shudder to hear or use. Related?

I'm the same way, for the most part. In a long-term relationship, I sometimes pick one term of endearment to use because it seems to be The Thing To Do, but otherwise, I don't like these generic nick names.

I don't like saying my name. My first name is common and it reminds me of someone I wouldn't like. My last name is unusual. I always have to spell it several times slowly, and it's only 5 letters long.

What's in a name topic

It may well be the horrible feeling of being centred out. I hate when I am asked by someone who is obviously bored or impatient to say my name aloud. My name is simple, but I find I have to spell it frequently. It becomes unwanted attention and then I feel everyone is looking. Sensory overload. I think I know what others are getting at. :(

If I am in for a job interview I will tell reception my name and say I am her to see so and so at a certain time. This is less stressful, as then I sit and wait and largely left alone, until I am called. 8)

I hate to, too...except when I'm with the Deaf-Blind. When you're with the Deaf-Blind, you gotta identify yourself the same way you would on the telephone - "this is..." then your name. When I was a kid I hated talking on the phone cuz I gotta say my name on the phone. I still hate talking on the phone today, but NOT for the same reason.

I know it makes it hard to meet people, but I kinda don't dislike it as much when I say my name in SIGN LANGUAGE as opposed to saying it with my voice. I love the Signing Community. They're my good friends. But as for the verbal population...no way! They're best off not knowing my name and having nothing to say to me!

I like my name, but its akward feeling when I say it. When talking to other people with my name (and my name is pretty common) I don't usually say our name. The only thing I don't like about my name is that it is sometimes a drag to have a common name and I hate it when people don't say it right (on purpose) or when they say my name, they say my first AND last name, together as if it was all one word, no capitals. -Power Girl

I like my name too, and I am the same way about being in the presence of another person with the same name. For example @ Taco Bell in Delhi Township, Cincinnati, OH, USA...TWO other guys with my name work there, and it takes me a minute to realize...they're NOT talking to me, even though I have the same first name as TWO guys who work there. I don't eat there often though.

I find it awkward saying my name except when I'm with the Signing Community. I wish I was with them on a weekly basis like I was years ago. I miss those weekly visits with Signing friends.

I like my name :D It's simple (Though I still refuse to reveal it - privacy is very important), and I just think it's part of my personality. I don't like when other people have my name. I feel like a commoner :(

I hate saying my name. Most people misspell it or mispronounce it. When I tell them if they ask me I usually have to say it about 5 times before they are close to getting it. It's a very rare, unusual name. I'm not saying what it is because it would compromise my identity.

I feel the same way as ebec, I don't like when other people have my name either. I just like to be the only person with my name, yet one of the people on one of my favorite TV shows shares my name. I know of 5 other people with my name. Oh well, at least my last name is unique to my area.
