I keep hearing ppl say that it calms them down without side affects, but I was wondering if it interfears with antidepressants or any medications.

well i'm wide awake at night and i can finally fall asleep at around 6am. i could go to sleep at any time during the day with no problems. any time after 7pm or so, it's extremely difficult for me get to sleep. it can take 2-3 hours from the time i lie down, and then i wake up several times during the night.

anyway, obviously, my body's melatonin production is already screwed up.

and, if you've read "healthy sleep habits, happy baby" he talks about that different systems govern your alertness state and whether or not you are awake or asleep. so that you can be dead tired and groggy and supposed to be asleep, but the other system that puts you to sleep isn't working so you can't. it's the story of my life.

Just out of curiosity, where do you all acquire melatonin? I've tried some from CVS (3mg, but it also has 10mg of vitamin b6), and sometimes the 3mg does not seem to help much, but I don't want to take 6mg since I'd be taking 20mg of vitamin b6 (recommended daily value = 2), so I would like to try some sans the vitamin b6 and see if works better.

There have also been no long term studies on the effects of taking melatonin, so I'd be wary taking it regularly long term.

Some studies have given hundreds of mg of vitamin B6 without any side effects so 20mg shouldn't be a problem. A few studies even gave 1,000mg of vitamin B6 without problems although it can be toxic in some people at 500mg a day. 20mg/day is nothing to worry about.

Like everything else, it worked for a few weeks until i adjusted. Right now I have it plus Benadryl or a similar antihistamine every night - I hate being this addicted but I cant stand lying awake for hours.
