Wow, I really didn't know there were others out there with similar issues. I too have tinnitus, which always confuses the issue for me because it's never really silent in my head. After a while I was able to accept that this (hearing muted conversation, etc.) was something I just had to deal with. Having little kids confuses the issue, as I have to decipher whether it's just noise in my head or if there's a little one who needs me.

It's weird to have keen and crappy hearing at the same time, but I don't know how else to explain it. A couple months ago I was trying to write off what I assumed were the normal auditory hallucinations being discussed, but the voices were too distinct. As it turns out there were vandals in our yard. I called the cops and everything was all right, but... I guess this sensitivity is good?

But those air mattress pumps--murder.

My mind is on infinite echoplex, usually captures music but at times it might do speech bytes or other sound sequences.

This is why it takes me a very long time to fall asleep and enter the hypnagogic state. It's like my mind is very engaged in the replay of the music, so it delays the shutdown process.

Perhaps it is this: http://www.damninteresting.com/musical-torment

The shuffling, with occasions of just one song segment happening on repeat, and references to things heard a lot in the past is very true for my experience.

I always hear high soft voices if I'm trying to rest in a quiet room, and especially if I'm trying to go to bed. It's so bad I must have a noisemaker/fan on or else I'll be up all night. At least I'm not the only one with this, that's some comfort.

Yes, but I don't have to be going to sleep, I can be reading or something, just very calm and I'll hear them, but they're not always whispering but can be very loud. It's just like I'm overhearing people. It's more pronounced the more I meditate.

Does anyone else hear what sounds like faint whispering voices after going to bed and waiting to go to sleep? I used to assume the voices were just sound carrying from nearby rooms or other houses, but where we live now there are no other buildings anywhere near us. I have tinnitus and don't know if it is related to this or related to aspergers or something else?

I think everyone sort of "hears things" when they are half asleep. I always hear conversations, music, and poetry in my head. Sometimes I even hear loud things when I am sort of sleeping and It makes me jump! I hate that!! And I also have tinnitus (from my dad!), and I don't think it's related to tinnitus or Aspergers.
