This is interesting. My paternal grandfather, all of his life, ate only one thing on his plate at a time. I have note=iced other AS traits in him, but never associated that trait with AS. Yes, indeed, it does run in families.

Dad's elder brother was the same way with his food. However, Dad and I will eat anything which doesn't run fast enough to get away. When I was training with a bugs 'n' snakes outfit, I never had a problem eating the survival tidbits we picked up off the desert floor. I have never liked my food touching, unless somebody else put the food on my plate. Like at a resturant. In that case I can seperate the food without caring, but I'm very picky if I put the food on my own plate.
