Do you think AS and migraine headache are related?

I think I inherited AS from my father's side and my headaches from my mother's.

I used to get bad migraines more than occasionally in elementary school until the school nurse told me to drink more water. I must have been dehydrated because after that I only got them once a month or so. For the past few years I haven't had any real migraines more than a few times an year, though, and they are not nearly as bad as the ones I used to have.

My definitely NT mother gets them often though. It runs in her side of the family. I remember that the recent headaches happen the first day of a trip, often to visit my mother's family (about a 6 hour drive). I can't say I enjoy the visits much at all so maybe it's stress?
It would be important to note that I'm not even sure I have AS...

I have had optical migraines but without the headache. I had my first attack in the classroom at age 13, and it scared the sh** out of me, I thought I was going blind. The second attack happened three years ago, and after that I used to have them on and off for one and a half years. Then suddenly, they stopped (I hope for good).

Yikes -- this sounds like my first migraine experience. I was 12 and in algebra class, and I started freaking out. I had these huge "blind spots" and thought I was going to die. The school nurse thought I was faking -- until I puked all over the floor.

Mine seem to be triggered by a host of things: menstruation, stress, caffeine, light (especially candles, school lighting, and department store lighting), stripes that are very close together and are opposite colors (e.g., a black-and-white striped shirt), bright flashy colors, etc. It's really hard for me to prevent headaches, because I'm pretty much stressed or nervous most of the time, and I can't necessarily avoid light or colors or weird patterns.

I get migraines frequently, and as a child used to get them on certain days, like Sundays.
They do get worse if I'm around people who won't stop talking, or if I'm on the computer too much, or watching anything that is too flashy on TV. In fact, most TV is visually overloading because the pictures go by too fast. Blech.

Also stress does bring them on, and after an outburst, sometimes the next day, if I'm still nervous, I can get a real skull-pounder. :shaking2:

I used to get migraines quite frequently. They were hormone and stress related. I'd get them before I'd start my period. I got them nearly every day when I was on birth control pills- didn't realize that's what was causing them. I also used to get migraines Saturday nights or Sunday afternoon because the stress of getting ready for church and going to church was terrible. Add the perfumes, lights, etc and it was enough to send me to bed Sunday afternoons. Glad I'm and atheist now :)

I get migraines. I have learned that they are usually due to lack of exercise, stress, and the things that I eat. Food sensitivities cause a lot of my headaches. Chocolate, fake flavouring, fake colouring, yeast content, onions...

Strong smells and perfumes cause migraines as well. Once again they are all things that cause over stimulation in my system.

I have never had a headache in my life, so I really would not know if they are related.

My brother however has ADD, at least he did growing up, and he gets monster migraines, they are so bad that he vomits and moans in pain... after the migraine passes, he dosn't remember it. The most common cause to him are eating anything spicy and then eating chocolait after.

No, but I think there is a correlation to headaches and anxiety.

I do because I think that a lot of people with AS have food allergy’s and that can trigger them and so can sensory problems and anxiety .

I always get migraines after long periods of stress. They go once I kick back thankfully. I use them as a warning sign now to chill out.

I'm wondering if there's a connection between the sensory overload issue and the onset of migraine headaches. I actually kind of believe there is (flickering light....intense sound....being easily stressed out).

Are you an Aspie who suffers from migraines? Feel free to comment on this anyway.

I don't think they're necessarily connected, but I do experience occasional migraines. I got my first one when I was 8.
