An OT is an occupational therapist. A weighted blanket is just that, a blanket that is weighted. It could be weighted with just about anything; plastic pellets, pellets made of other materials, even dry rice or beans. It's used as a calming tool for people on the spectrum, people with ADD/ADHD, and people with sensory integration disorders.

I really do like heavy blankets and I tend to use a lot of them so that I can feel weight on me while i sleep. but I don't think I would buy a blanket with weights in it.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I never heard of this until this post, and I've been trying it out a bit lately (just putting random heavy soft things on my legs/back), and I can see why everyone else likes it so much 8O My legs stopped wiggling, and the urge totally went away...then I took stuff off, and they went right back to wiggling

I'd love to get one if I had that kind of money. Too bad I'd only be able to use it when it's cold out =/

I bought my son's on eBay. It's kind of hard to wash because of the weight, but otherwise, he loves it (and I would love to have one of my own). I've always slept with lots of blanket weight, or a dog. My son sleeps with both the weighted blanket and a large dog over his legs. It also helps when he's having lots of tics (Tourette's).
