I don't so much mind the songs, character voices or phrases that repeat, but from time to time, when I'm thinking to myself, my internal monologue actually hangs like a record, and the last few words of a sentence will repeat incessantly, until I sort of mentally thump the stylus and knock it over to the next groove. to the next groove. to the next groove. to the next groove. to the

hehe, well, I have AS and OCD, so I really can't tell you if it's one or the other. :S but I think that sounds more like compulsive tendencies to me.

This is a form of echolalia. AS gets the golden ticket. OCD doesn't usually have echolalia as a co-morbid, their repetitive thoughts are more "if i don't do this, my grandmother is going to trip and die."

echolalia ranges from stuttering so badly that you can't understand the person, to repeating words and sentences, to repeating entire conversations

We are just non-verbal echolalics (i do it too) I've pulled conversations from years back and rerun them.

My songs though... a few times they come out and have relevance to what is going on in my life.... as in if i were technically non-verbal and could blurt music... you might be able to translate my feelings at that particular moment...

now.... OP just to let you know.... it also happens in your everyday wording of paragraphs.... if you go back into your Original Post You will see that you repeated a bunch of words a couple of times... I notice this, because i do it too... I used to have to use a thesaurus to write essays.

and thank you for putting this one in my head... (i am gonna have mickey on recycle all night now)

M I C See you real soon! K E Y Why because we like ya! M O U S E

here, I'll repay the favor..... This is the song that doesn't end...... you guys fill in the rest

or skin a ma rinky dinky dink... skina ma rinky dooooo

Yep. Certain responses or questions play in my mind repeatedly, I thought it was just me! 8O

I repeat 5 words in my head in the same order and then I have to repeat them backwards. I do things like this a lot.

I do something similar. Whenever I'm thinking of, or see, a short sentence, I have to repeat them backwards. Sometimes it's annoying when I come to a particularly long word, because people start wondering why I'm standing there, staring into space and moving my lips.

Also, entire songs often get lodged into my mind. It's great if the song in question is one which I like, because I can play it back almost exactly how it really sounds, but if it's a song I hate... 8O

This happens to me all the time, especially with song lyrics. Here are a few examples of things that have been stuck in my head:

"The Space Between" by Dave Matthews Band: "We're strange allies with warring hearts"
"Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls: "A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio"
"Black Balloon" by the Goo Goo Dolls: "That shattered like ice from the spoon"
"A Sorta Fairytale (Extended version)" by Tori Amos: "Till you lost me in the rear view"
"Lips of an Angel" by Hinder: "And yes I dreamt of you too"

Strangely, it's always the lyrics to sad, slow songs that get stuck in my head and never the catchy dance songs I normally listen to.

Sure thing! Giant memory banks + echolalic tendencies + running monologue/dialogue in head = definitely.

Ditto! :D

Apparently getting a song stuck in your head is called having an 'earworm'. But I don't think most people get entire songs stuck in their head (I definitely do though... and if I sing it in my head and hear it in its entirety sometimes it'll make it disappear!)

Um, let me think.................YA!! If I like the sound of any phrase I repeat it multiple times in my head. During the rest of the time I have various other things repeating in my head. As I repeat them I remember information about them. A game I like to do is figure out how I got to a certain subject. I've had as many as 10 segways until I got back to my original repeating thing in my head. The 2 had nothing in common.

I've also done coversations over and over in my head. I'm good for about the next 5 years where I've figured out what I am going to say to nearly every question that may come up. Sometimes I freak people out because as soon as they ask what would need thinking by anyone, I say right after they are done. Some thing I knew what they were going to say but I don't and just know the response.

Yup! Very often. Especially musical patterns from favourite songs or just stuff I play on the piano. Sometimes I will repeat what somebody just said on TV. Odd now that I think about it... lol. OCD or AS? I think this is common in both cases.

I once had the Christmas song 'Here we go a Wassailing' stuck in my head off and on for 5 years. It drove me crazy...

Ditto on the running monologue in the mind. as well as repeating the same line or song lyric in my head all day long. I also repeat what other people say under my breath, and it's really embarrassing if I get caught doing that. One guy asked me if I'd just whispered what he'd said, and I replied that yes, I did, but only because what he'd said was so profound I wanted to mark it in my memory forever. (which is kind of close to the truth - I just liked how the words sounded). He was flattered, even though the phrase I'd repeated was, "after that semi hit it, ----'s El Camino was flatter than birdsh*t on a fencepost."

I tend to take the last song I hear before going out the door with me and play it back all day -- whether or not I like the song. Sometimes I'll deliberately play something I really do like so the soundtrack of the day fits for me.

I also replay conversations in my head, playing all parts.

Going to have to chime in with agreement. I hate it when I get just a tiny peice of movement stuck in a loop in my head over and over again, it's like a moving icon only in my head.

At work last weekend I was washing dishes and this song from my childhood kept playing, I think it went "Warm water, slippery soap, gonna wash wash my hands..." It about drove me nuts because that's all I could remember of the song so it just looped.

I do this all the time i find myself either having conversations before they happen so that I will know what to say and do, and I also keep reliving past conversations playing in my head what went wrong and how I could have handled the situation in different manners, it gets so elaborate that I even see potential outcomes. Don't know if this makes sense to anyone else.
