I don't ever remember thinking of myself as an alien. Then again, I also thought I was one of the few intelligent life forms around me (a very vain thing to think, I know). When I read what Dr. Attwood wrote in his guide to AS about one coping mechanism for being considered different is "denial and arrogance", I couldn't help but laugh.

I always used to consider myself a visitor, observing humans and finding out more about their behaviour. I still feel like this, but I don't carry a notepad and dog-chewed pen around with me to note down fascinating observations on Homo sapiens individuals at every opportunity. Not that I ever did.

An alien? I'm not so sure. I've always been something of an outsider, but not like an alien.

Specter, with your sunglasses you look just like I did at age 19! I was even given the nickname Matrix.

Maybe that's what the greys are doing during all those abductions. Genetically engineering an upgrade into the species. Soon the Mother ship will come and take us all home, where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha....

Oddly enough a similar topic came up on one of the paranormal boards I visit once in a while to post ghost photos (I investigate haunted houses as a hobby - umm...ignore that) and someone (not me) suggested that during the height of the 'Alien Abduction' fad that seemed to be going around in the mid-to-late 80's, the Greys had implanted their DNA into the unborn fetuses of human children. I scoffed at the idea, of course (I might believe in ghosts, LOL, but I'm pretty sure there aren't such things as aliens) but I still keep hearing people talking about it here and there on the internet. Someone else answered that Grey DNA might be what's responsible for the recent explosion of people with ASDs and bipolar disorder. I'm laughing as I write this, but some of those folks take this idea seriously...

I have noticed that in alot of these post that they those of us with AS tend to view ourselves as aliens and that we were just placed on the "wrong planet". I mean Im not arguing with this idea, when I was a very young kid I believed this with all my heart because how could I be the only one in the world who doesnt understand people. I viewed myself (and still do) as an outside observer who is not to intervene in the lives of others but to study them in hopes of one day understanding them. I hope that doesnt make me sound like a total dork, I am not that big into Star Trek or anything so that is not where I got the idea, (not that there is anything wrong with Star Trek it is a good series) I just am curious as to how we each came to that conclusion by ourselves.

I used to play-pretend that my family were aliens, but I've thankfully grown up since then and am no longer stupid.
The idea that people w/ AS are aliens, when taken seriously, is ridiculous and natural selection has determined people who promote the idea with a straight face are pretty much destined to accidentaly walk off the edge of a cliff.

Well, they haven't begun to topple lemming-like over a cliff as of yet. When I scoffed at the supposed existence of 'aliens among us,' one lady ripped into me with a novel-length post explaining all the 'obvious' signs out there that (alien) Reptilians are dwelling amongst us. I think she missed her dose of Haldol when Nurse Ratchet came around with the sqeaky-wheeled medicine cart.

No I'm not an alien; I've never felt like one, I'm a homo sapien, a human. I have my own personality, I'm neurotypical, been diagnosed with AS.

so, are you saying you are neurotypical and incorrectly diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, or that you are a neurtypical with Asperger's Syndrome?

I didn't know you could be BOTH neurotypical and neuroatypical.

Would I guess somebody with bipolar disorder be neurotypical. Autism isn't the only form of atypicality.
