Is Asperger's considered a disability in the United States?

3 things I found. And from looking it up a lot of people have that same question.

Can you win social security disability or SSI disability benefits on the basis of asperger's syndrome?
By being diagonosed AS alone no. It depends on the fuctional limitations.

I'm classified as having a disability so yes. I also got money from SSI, I get free health insurance. I guess I got on it by other reasons too.

I think to get SSI you either need classic low functioning autism. Or if you have Aspergers I think you really can only get SSI if you have something else wrong like some oppositional disorder or severe bi-polar, etc. I know of someone with Aspergers who gets SSI but they have other mental disorders that make them unable to get along in the world.

It's concidered a dissablitiy pretty much everywhere, I would think.

I tried to get some financial help from the state by using my diagnosis, and I applied with the developmental disability section of the program. They got back with me and said that they help out Autistics but not Aspies. BS. I qualified with most of their required scenarios as well, but still...
