What are physical health problems that go with Asperger's?

I've had stomach problems in the past.
My whole life i've had sleeping problems.
The sleeping problem is a pretty common thing in people with autism/asperger.
I need to be physically totaly exhausted in order to fall asleep.
Fortunately with my current job i get more excersize than most people going to the gym multiple hours a day.
At times i get so exhausted that i could even sleep before 9-10 pm.
Wich is pretty insane for me, because i could never sleep before 3 am when i was going to school.

My mothers family has a history of diabetes. But 1 in ten whites today, at least in the US, are supposed to have similar problems. BTW I am white and my reference to whites is not racist, it is simply considered a high risk group.

I have a seizure disorder, fortunately under control with medication.

I have a high gag reflex.

Otherwise, I am pretty healthy. I don't get very many colds, despite having a low white cell count as a result of the medication I take to control my seizures.

I know that stomach/digestive problems seem to be pretty prevalent. I know a lot of AS people that have migraines. Allergies are pretty common. I've also heard that teenage boys have a pretty high prevalence of lung collapse due to spontaneous pneumothorax.

I suffered from equinus gait when I was younger and have some motor Nerve problems ( I've considered a posiblity of mild dyspraxia but I'm apparently too old for diagnosis, and most of my problems are hand-based anyway).

i was under the impression that digestive/stomach disorders are prevalent, particularly leaky gut syndrome. i may be mistaken...

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it...seems to me like that whole "politically correct" is finally fading away. Glad to see it go \m/

An array of sensory integration disorders can be found among ASD kids.

Besides the physical signs, which are often sensory problems and/or clumsiness (or full-on dyspraxia) and/or a 'funny gait', there's not alot that's definitely associated. Though there does seem to be a prevalence of digestive problems.


Personally, I'm clumsy as hell and very pigeon toed. Other than that, nothing thank goodness!

From my experience we are as healthy or healthier than NTs. The only caveat is stress related co morbidities and in rare cases minor complication from having a less varied diet (which can have benefits also). As for my aspie genetic tree we have exceptional longevity (regularly living to over 100 with full cognitive capabilities) for back 3 generations.

I have digestive problems - I don't have IBS, but something is certainly wrong and no doctor I've been to can figure out what. I do feel better when I have less gluten, I'm not willing to give it up completely though, as I have a hard enough time getting a balanced diet as it is.

I have problems sleeping unless I'm physically exhausted, and I get hit really hard by colds every winter, and some summers too.

I've also heard that women on the spectrum are more likely to have high testosterone, which causes various problems. I have PCOS, possibly caused by CAH.

In conclusion, I'm physically a mess, but I can't be sure than any of it is caused by AS.

Wow, stomach problems seem to be common with aspies. I have them myself and I do have IBS.

I've also noticed some aspies have allergy/asthma problems, myself included. But I haven't seen enough evidence to say the two are connected.

Don't know if it's related to AS, but I get emotional indigestion sometimes.

I've noticed allot of people with autism having Ibs and migraines. Sometimes I get them both at the same time
