Even though I don't game now and never have, I don't think it's lame.

I know some gamers who are aged 22, 25, 37 and 54!

Nothing lame about it if your having fun. :)

My parents be asking me "you still video playing games?", haven't you outgrown that? But there's plenty of grown people that play games that's way older than me and im just 19. I don't play like I used to but it is something that I still enjoy doing. On the other hand I notice that when I walk into a game store the older guys or teenagers seem kinda odd or geeky. They don't exactly look the coolest and sometimes I have anxiety about going cuz I don't want any I know to see me and think im a nerd or lame. The average person my age is into females and partying.

You've already proven yourself "lame" with your attitude.

And that is on the simple basis that... the less geeky you are, the more "lame" you are.

I'm 24 years of age, have been gaming for about 12 years.... and dedicate all my free time not spent sleeping... to gaming... pretty much. I'd have it no other way.
I own a PC and Laptop, Xbox 360, Wii, original Xbox, Gamecube... and in storage have a Saturn and Megadrive (with MegaCD). Used to have a Dreamcast too, but it broke and I couldn't find a replacement.

I am a gamer... and yes, I look down on people who aren't.
I certainly look down on the fools who are "into females and partying"... because frankly I cannot imagine partaking of anything so inanely boring as that for any extended period. I have experimented... but sex is boring, messy and sometimes painful... while "partying" basically equates to sensory overload and talking a load of BS with idiots.

And simply put.... if you feel any shame at being in a gaming shop... you need to straighten up and get over it...
"Geeky" is not a bad thing; it is most definitely a good thing...

Parental insanity alert! My friends and I are in our 30s, and we all play video games. Playing an epic game is like watching an epic movie - sure, Super Mario Galaxy is for kids, but so is Prince Caspian, and I doubt many adults would challenge the maturity of the film-goer. GTA IV is every bit as well-written as any mobster flick, only longer, variable, and with an endless quantity of deleted scenes. Video games are the best medium for story telling, just like WP is 10x better than a local support group with the other four Aspies who live close enough to show up.

You are right, they are wrong. Almost everything in life is some shade of gray, but this one is on the fringe of being black and white. Criticising a medium is ad hominem at the very least. At your age, I'm surprised your parents never played video games - Space Invaders is more than a decade older than you are!

A Caveat: Game addiction is a real and growing problem. A week after Call of Duty 4 was released, the online Top Ten had played between 1 day 9 hours and 3 days 1 hour; anyone who plays one game for 20-43% of an entire week has a problem. 43% of time allocated to a single activity? That is a problem level for anything, including working and sleeping, the two big time-consumers in daily life for most of us. Enjoy, but please enjoy responsibly!

lame happens to horses, games are what happen to those who are not ignorant enough to pre judge them based on stupid not real stereotypes-they are myths, some believe in them but that doesnt make them true.
there are loads of these stupid game stereotypes-they're just for children, they're not for girls, they make gamers want to kill and torture, they are not educational......not good.

if want to play them, play them, ignore the myths,a lot of non gamers know nothing but the stereotypes about gaming, just like the ignorants are with autism or as.

I am 37 and have been playing video games for about 25 years. I plan to play them for the rest of my life.

Besides video games, I love playing card and board games. Not many people in my area still enjoy board games, but I would really enjoy a game that requires a few days to play out.
Oh, yeah the type of board games I am referring to mostly are wargames (Man, do I miss Avalon Hill and the old TSR).

Playing games gives me mind something enjoyable to focus on that I very rarely ever get in interacting with people. If I did not have the games, I would be extremely bored in life.

That's because the "cool guys" who play videogames don't go into game stores. They just head for Best Buy and grab the latest Madden football game and they're set

And game stores won't buy their used copy of Madden '07 off them because they've already got 20 copies they can't sell ;)

Gaming is for anyone and whether it's lame or you're a "loser" would depend on other criteria, nt just gaming as far as I"m concerned. I consider my little brother a loser- he plays Warcraft, has X-box, spends all his time playing games. He lives with my mother at age 28 and has been unemployed for years due to a "disability". He's milking the system and mooching off my mom. That's a loser.

I am a gamer. My husband is a gamer. On average, we spend about 2 hours/day playing together and he spends a lot more time gaming than that. We also mainly play warcraft. I wouldn't consider us "losers". We own a home, have 4 kids, he works maintaining an internet website for a medical insurance company. We are gamers, but not losers :D

There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing video games at nineteen. I'm nineteen and I was playing "Rugrats Royal Ransom" on my PS2 just this morning! Your parents are way over-reacting.
