I can't remember very well but I think it was conversations and tests.

I certainly remember her asking me, 'Do you like other children at school? Do you play with them?'

I remember my answer: 'No, I don't play with them. Why would I want to? I'm not into makeup and football... especially not at that age! I'm more into news, current events and politics. I find them illogical and totally immature.'

That was a pretty good answer for someone who was only 13 years old, wasn't it eh?

She also asked me a few other questions, about whether I could express emotion and concern for others. I remember saying that of course I could, I knew if anyone was upset and I would ask them why, if you couldn't it would make you an alien... (don't mean to offend anyone on here, that's just what I said, remember I was only 13 and didn't know much about ASD's yet)

She also asked me if I made eye-contact with people. I said I did with family and friends but not with strangers who were talking to me... "why should I look at them anyway? They might think I was rude..."

I also had to order a 'day's events' from pictures.. like put the pictures in the right order...

I feel exactly the same way about my peers. I always have. I've always been friends with people who are either younger or older than me. For some reason, I just can't understand people who are the same age as me. I'm at the age where people are at college and they're into partying and stuff. I'm not in college, I have a 6 month old, and I hate parties. I'd much rather stay at home and play World of Warcraft or read. This further alienates me from my peers. Not that I care, though. I'm more comfortable hanging out with other moms. Non-moms just don't get it, either, I've found.

Diagnostic assessments by talks, evaluation of my behaviour (observing what I do/how I do it) and yeah.

Also some weird tests to search for and exclude emotional issue and psychological disorders (mood disorders, anxiety, bpd, schizophrenia, schizoidpd) that could be the cause instead of AS... I didn't get what most questions were about because it didn't apply to me.

And last (to serve the popular diagnostic?) AQ test and IQ test.

I know the exacts are all written down in my report, but I'm too lazy to look it up and translate it.

First they thought I had a muscle disease; so they put me on therapies. Than they decided to put me in an university hospital for three weeks. They did al kinds of tests on me. Tests on my blood, urine, etc.
Different walking-bands, muscle tests. The works. Then they decided to focus on my head, with ECG and even an CT-scan (which was really expensive around that time). Because I was a bit busy then they had to sedate me for the CT partially but not too much, I have never felt so strange again (a total trip at the age of 7!)

Then there was some social observation and the school reports. They decided I had something on 'the spectrum' combined, that showed in motor skill problems, some social problems and high intelligence. Aspergers' was not really known at that time, but when I look at the reports it really points that way. Using the reports I recently deduced I am an Aspie. They gave me special help on school and a typewriter.

I took a few different tests when I was really young, but the AS dx was all conversation.

For me it was pretty much only conversation.

The psychiatrists asked me and my parents a bunch of questions about each of the Asperger symptoms and to what extent I displayed them from my childhood to the present, so conversation only. All they needed to do was listen to me and my parents describe some of my behaviors and they were easily convinced that I have Asperger's.

Observations, and conversations. We went through the DSM-IV-TR point for point, with said observations, and conversations applied; we also went through with the psychic's own view of Autism and Asperger's (which is accurate as mainstream psychiatry goes). This took two one-hour sessions with my mother and me. Came away with Kanner's Autism here, albeit, high-functioning (but below the level of someone with Asperger's on a whole).

A diagnostician at Attwood's, in all its scientific accuracy, stated that I was an "aspie" within several minutes of seeing her in a 30 minute session.

Both conversation and tests. The tests were things like IQ tests, physical tests (for coordination and the likes), and social observation tests.

From what I remember... conversation, but also conversations with my family. I took an IQ test, the MMPI, the AQ test, and a couple others. She also looked at my educational records.

I said both but I should have said other, because it was a combination of tests (especially WISC intelligence tests, facial expression tests). Also interviewing myself and interviewing a parent for my early life history such as how I faired with my early life's developmental milestones and patterns of my day to day behaviour (tantrums and aloofness etc).

Also my early school reports were taken into consideration and my lack of ability to relate well to other children my age and a tendancy to keep wandering off on my own.

Diagnosed as an adult by conversation only. When I asked why no tests, he said that things I'd talked about indicated problems with Theory of Mind that were distinctly asperger, among other things I'd described. I told him that I didn't figure out people couldn't read my mind till I was a teenager. Still have a problem with that. I know it but still think it, if you know what I mean.
