there's many a solution that hasn't been tried because 'it's not cost-effective' to use it. However, the higher oil goes, the more of these become feasible. The only problem is that, no matter what the technology, it still takes years to get it out of the ground, and into your tank.

if they come up with something as efficient, cheap, and reliable as gasoline used to be, sign me up.

I don't see the point of drilling for more oil, as it's just going to run out again. We've been dependent on oil for too long and it would make more sense to go with renewable fuels, such as biofuels, solar/wind/wave power, or even nuclear power (when was the last major nuclear meltdown?). I'm looking forward to the day that plug-in hybrids become easily affordable. Plus, countries like those in Europe have dealt with high fuel prices for much longer than the US has, and they've compromised with smaller, more fuel efficient cars (such as the SMART car), public bicycle use, and better public transportation networks, such as TGV's.

In the meantime, I'll keep my bicycle, even when I do get my license.

But requires 150-250 dollar oil to be viable on the same scale as the Athabasca Tarsands.

Ya I realized that after I had read more on it, oil shale is not the easiest way to get oil, its also 3.2 km) below the surface so it can't be mined easily

Keep in mind guys, it will take millions of barrels of oil just to build the infrastructure for alternative energy like solar, nuclear, wind, hydrogen, etc. We still need the oil. I keep hearing all day about "big oil companies", but the fact of the matter is they only make about three cents profit or 3 percent of every dollar of gas. Look at your local, state, and federal govermments with all the tax they are charging for every gallon. Of course Congress wants you to continue to look at the "big oil companies" and not look at them.

Lol, yea oil is a finite resources, just not finite in our generation or the next 100 generations. We are specs on a dog's ass. To think we have even begun to use most of the oil (peak oil theory) is a joke. Yes cheap oil is seems to be running out, the oil that is easiest to get too, but keep in mind technology multiplies vastly every year that goes by. In the 80s we were in fear that we would run out of landfill space, but with technology we have enough landfill space to last forever.

By the way, we need cheaper oil that will result in cheaper gas at the pump in the US more than other country. We live in a geographically large country. You can't always just walk to the the grocery store, doctor, post office, work, in minutes like you can in a lot of the European countries and say Japan.

Excellent points!

Sign the petition that will be sent to Congress letting them know you want them to start drilling for oil here in the US.
