It's normal.

However I heard somewhere that the secret to fast reading is to stop doing that.

I wish I could have fast reading superpowers, imagine getting the contents of a whole page in 2 seconds! Boy I would have so much free time I could use in ... reading more books. Then with all the information I would actually take over the world!

I get both the visual image and the voice, usually my own.

Last time it was clocked my top reading speed was somewhere between eight and nine hundred WPM, and it's true to get that fast, you do have to stifle the inner voice as well as the pictures, so for me it's not nearly as enjoyable as just relaxing and reading at a natural pace. It's great for cramming, if you're going to take a test within an hour or two, but I find that I don't retain info very well long term when I read like that.
