I'm not a psychiatrist, but I am a therapist and would be willing to make myself available at times if it could be worked out.

I like some of hale_bopp's ideas, particularly the Pen Pal section, and the dating and friends section.

I think a proper art/poetry section would be good for the site, something like what FanFiction.net/FictionPress.net provides.

I'm happy to pledge my support for anything that will make this site better, and I look forward to the future of this site, whatever direction it goes.

It would be really cool to have a get together or something (as others have said in the past) so that we could meet people in real life who have Asperger's. I don't know how it would be a go for everyone, but for some it would be pretty cool. I think it would also help rake in some more money by having some form of fundraiser off the net, like a carwash or something. Or you could ask the National Autistic Society to fund the site. I also think it would be awesome if we had some more games on here, like more word or imaginative games to play with other people or by yourself. Playing games with other aspies is another great way to have fun and maybe get to know fellow aspies a little bit better than before. Hope this helps.

I've never known a psychiatrist to do anything but deal out meds. Psychiatrists aren't trained in therapeutic relations.

But Licensed Clinical Social Workers or Clinical Psychologists (though I truly more often prefer the former) would be best. They work WITH the people. Or even as pyraxis mentioned, a link with crisis hotline workers.

PS- Nice to see you back, anbuend. :D

I hardly go to other people with my problems, hehe. That solves any exclusion crises for me.

Sounds great on paper, but here's the Catch-22.

Ads for WrongPlanet.net on Google = Higher Traffic
= More Members
= Higher Bandwidth Usage
= Greater Financial Cost

I don't mean to sound pessimistic about this, but are you ready to shoulder the burden that this would bring about? Personally I like what's here, and want it to thrive, however at the same time, I don't want to see what this site is diluted/destroyed. There's a lot more that I could go on about right now, but I'll refrain from saying it until I have more time to think things through before I post again on the topic.

I understand this is late, but Pyraxis, I agree. I do think the blogs need to be updated, but yes, there are HEAPS of consequences to improving WP.

The only concern I can think of at the moment is that some people have mentioned possibly teaming up with other organization. Would that force the site, or cause people to assume that we have a stance on curing Autism? Considering that there is no concencus on that issue and there likely never will be, I think that the site as a whole (while leaving people to their personal wishes) would be best off staying neutral in the cure debate.

This will cover some old ground and points others have already made, but stick with it...

As a person quite new to WP myself, I think the biggest challenge for growing this place (which I support 100% incidentally), is for new people like myself to make an impact and connect with others without being swamped in the huge flurries of posts that are continually being deposited here.
Especially so given the communication problems that many of us face, myself included.

Inevitably, there are various cliques (otherwise known as groups of friends) which are near impossible to break into.

Perhaps one solution is to have another newbies forum where members that have posted more than X posts (500 maybe) are not allowed to post, although moderators would clearly still have access.
That way, new people can get to know each other and build friendships in a safe place where they won't feel (unintenionally) excluded or ignored by the more senior members of the group?

I know many people would prefer not to segment WP any further than it already is but I find trying to join a large, established group of people is really hard; others must do too. Perhaps the only sure way of developing things further is to allow and encourage multiple communities to develop, with some degree of overlap, of course.

I also support the idea of having face-to-face meet ups, as long as it is made clear that nothing is expected from anyone that just turning up and being there is more than good enough. Again, having groups of long established individuals there could prevent new people from feeling welcome.

To Ante: although I often disagree with what you're saying, I respect your contribition and am interested in your point of view, perhaps even more so because you may be further into the spectrum than I am. Just because some have (during heated exchanges) asked for a ban doesn't mean we all think that way. :)

If you mean my hotline suggestion, no - dealing with a group that has a curebie philosophy was most definitely not my intent. And I would not suggest doing anything that relinquishes any kind of executive control over the site to another organization.

Hey, that's an interesting idea. I like it. As for further segmentation, it'll be necessary the bigger we grow, in order to keep the same frequency of posts in any given forum.

Very true! Though I made my mark pretty quickly, people here DO have communication issues, and we should NOT ignore this. Perhaps we could have a 'welcome committee' as such, to introduce new users into the fold, like a buddy system. Just an idea!

I myself have only have been here myself since Sep 23, 2005. I though have posted over 500 posts how would this affect me since I still see myself as a newbie too. :?

I personally don't think segregating based on posts is a bad bad idea... Age would be better and even then...I think we should allow people to choose their own crowds.
