disappearing in your own world and oblivious to everything?

I've been doing that for as long as I can remember.

How extreme can one interpret this ?
Do you mean that if the room caught on fire
you would remain oblivious to it? Or is it just
limited to ignoring someone calling your name
out or dropping a tambourine on the floor?
My friends joke that my "Indian name" is
"Doesn't know what's going on" because
I space out so much...even during spaces
in between our conversations and before
I can finish saying what I started to say.

I mean, you just walk without looking both ways as you cross the street, something along the lines of doing that?

I am constantly in both worlds somehow, I only slighly move more into reality or out as situation dictates, thaugh I've been told I have zoned out to the point where people have called my name and I don't respond.
i hate it when i get the hand-waving in front of my face to bring me back...... that works more than calling my name.
JOIN THE CLUB! My mother used to ALWAYS do that.
thing is... im usually thinking about something when i'm spaced out... i can manipulate my movies and change them as i think and since i don't use a lot of verbal/written cues to keep track of my lines of thought... when someone snaps me out of it... i have to start rewinding and re-cuing my thoughts... and they never seem to develop along the same lines exactly... it's like never getting to see the end of a movie.
