I know the music I like is not the most popular one today (some renaissance´s composers...), and I don't expect other people love it as I do. My wife likes it, sometimes. I use headphones and listen in my iPod or PC mostly.
-> But I can't listen a lot of kind of musics... nowaday's popular musics makes my brain stressed, drives me crazy! I have to use earplugs if someone listen to it loudly! And frequently the music infects my mind and keep playing until I "clean up" with some other music... like a mind virus!

Nobody I know likes the music i do. I think being on my own a great deal in the past I didn't have others' tastes to emulate, so I just developed my own tastes, enjoyed what I liked to listen to, rather than what I should listen to, according to the majority. I keep my music a secret almost, listening on headphones, though when I lived on my own the house had a cellar where I would freely listen on speakers.. Now I'm married, it's different. Once I was brave enough to listen to it on speakers, but when my missus came home early, I found myself acting as though I were listening to a porn tape soundtrack, hastily switiching it off, trying to avoid embarrassment. At university, someone even went as far as to call my taste in music "weird", but I didn't particularly care.
I think that on the whole if you like it, like it, dont't let anyone else tell you it's rubbish, just because it's not their thing. Also, if you don't care for their music, be honest but respectful, say it's not your cup of tea.
I'd love to know what kind of music you like.
