Are Aspies Superior?: A multi-faceted discussion
Oh, please click. It's so worth it:

Seriously, the distinction is qualitative so comparisons really cannot be fruitful (catch the pun?) in this case.
Better? I don't know. May be a moot point. Special? Yes, for all with autism, in whatever form/level. I am cognitively gifted so I am grateful for my autism; my strength, my mind, & my identity. However, being autistic is really hard too.

I love the video! Now I'm going to fly around and fight crime with a big blue "A" on my chest. Or maybe I'll put the big blue "A" on a shirt and wear that. Pants would be good, too.

Ok, if we're still on bragging mode, I can repair Eppendorf Pipettes. Flash count. Disassemble and reassemble (maybe with parts left over....) instrumentation and machinery. And brains (I'm in the neurosciences - it's allowed). Wicked good at math. Science buff. I'm very artistic.
Partly mute. I stim.
Must I list the whole thing?
Autistics have contributed much to society yet ask for nothing but acceptance.
Our kind are honest; I am naive to a fault.

I knew you'd appreciate the video. So...where does one buy a monogrammed Autism Leotard?

Viola. The narcissus flower! No one ever takes me seriously until I'm kidding.....I was kidding, FreedomG. But I do have those 'qualities,' this is true. But is that a gift? Interpretative, and no conclusions drawn. Being autistic is hard - I do struggle, as do others. I do, in fact, have a fragile ego; that's a given. And no self-confidence.

So people who have information can do nothing with it, and are equal to people who do not have information?
As for these "facts" most have, or will be, proven wrong.
Our method is not preparing for some trivia game, it is learning how we learn, by learning.
All information is not equal, what everyone knows is constantly disproved, it is a process we call Science.
In over 200 years, over 7,000,000 Patents have been issued, proof of new knowledge.
2,000,000 have been in the last decade. It shows an evolution of thought.
Almost all are based on, the past got it wrong. While their facts were disproved, few read and learned about it, and applied the new version of knowledge, the ability to learn, the system of Science, and found a new answer.
Without the preperation of learning the facts, to the degree where conflicts become apparent, having an active learning process, being a lifetime learner, willing to give up old knowledge for new, a framework, Science, it would not be possible to Patent more than one quarter of all new ideas in a decade.
I have studied Inventors, I write books about it. They are one in 5,000 to 10,000, make Aspies seem common. They do have the same traits. They become obsessive about a subject, a narrow field or two, learn everything, live it, and continue until they understand, and can restate what is really going on.
It is not creative, something from nothing, it is the same parts, seen in a clearer relationship. All Patents start with Prior Art, the known. They are all fact based, and none stand alone. As MysteryFan3 mentions, it is in taking the next step from the base of the known. He may not be the first to do so, but the process is the same, he is an Inventor, just not first to file.
We do two things AI never will, we can unlearn, discover what is wrong, discard it, and we can make the next logical step.
Invention has been taught to the most gifted students in the best Universities, the results were zero.
They were educated, but not to the extent that they could see they had bought false knowledge, and paid for an MIT Degree. They had nothing to judge their education against. Having not taken the first step, doing things wrong for a while, they did not have a base of working knowledge from which to see the next step.
Most Inventors are serial inventors. It is not the field, but the way they think. They do have exact and detailed knowledge in one or more fields, they have learned how they learn, they let their eyes and mind teach them. Most are self educated.
Once they start, they do not stay in one field, as the formal education system dictates, but can apply their base of facts, processes, and knowing how they learn, to other fields with equal results.
Patents started about 700 years ago, Science 150. It is an offshoot of invention, discovery, codifying what inventors have learned through observation and thought. Trial and error will get nowhere, and cost a lot, such as Government Science.
All advance has been from people who learn facts till they can see that not all of them could be true.
As LabPet mentions when we put things back together, they work, and there are parts left over. Invention is doing the same thing with less parts. Science is defining the parts that it will not work without.
Aspies are Proto Inventors, many of the same traits, but one visits pill pushers and listens to psychobabble, the other files at the Patent Office. All of the inventors I have met are Autistic. None of them are social, only when speaking of their work, and they do not read their mail or return phone calls.
They are in no way equal to NT's, they have a knowledge and method that has gotten All the Patents, something that can be measured. They live full time in their world. Lab Researchers also fit the profile. They do not just have a job so they can go to football games on the weekend. They live in their research, and only relate to things that connect somehow. They discover All the Science.
Invention, Science, Libraries, Universities, are just offshoots of prior Autistic thought patterns.
I see inventors as a sub set of Autism, and Lab Researchers, IT, Programmers, Musicians, Artists, Writers, it seems there are a lot on this site. It is one in a thousand people who do most of the good stuff.
99.9% of people are just taking up space, breathing my air, and littering!
This includes 90+% of Aspies, who have been listening to psychobabble. I would prefer the company of a dog, they do not go in for self hating. Dogs love being dogs, and are happy, so what is wrong with aspies?
Most people are just a drain and burden on the planet, and most people are NT.
Be yourself, it is the least complicated way.
I am the best me out of six billion bad copies.

I have one distinct super power ... and that is being a bullsh*t-detector.
Didn't einstein thought about relativity?
Some NT's taught me they feel I am way above them in therms of comprehension and creativity. Others, especially the social ones, say I am a ret*d. A mongoloid.
I don't know the truth, I do know I dance to a different drummer. I feel the reason of my condition is because I am emotionally detached. Creativity and knowledge are very related and we seem to be more evolved that way but I know we can't pretend something that it's not because we don't feel emotions with the same intensity they. A few times, when I smoked cannabis, or when I felt strange by some other reason... I could actually feel the pain when I saw someone suffering, but that is not something I can do everyday. So I believe NT's have it. They feel what others feel and that's what makes them pretend, lie, deceive or dream. TYhey may be more humans, I don't know... it's quite contradictory. Sometimes I feel I am a coldhearted MF and NT's tend to agree with that opinion and sometimes I believe "If" everyone would be the same way I am there would be more peace and gratitude in the world. I don't know... I am divagating right know... The fact is we are different... But I have to clear you a point before I go. Human beings are artificial intelligence, the machines only have to learn to compare to each other. And that could bring war the same way human beings are fighting each other since the beginnin...
excuse my poor english
take care

wow, Mr. Inventor
you have got to be the most cantankerous intellectual I have ever locked horns with.
again, all of you are putting words in my mouth, I never said I was ashamed to be who I am nor did I say I was proud of it.
Circumstances of birth should not be a source of pride or shame.
Frankly, sir, you nearly disgust me with your arrogance.

another important factor to consider is the whole ''supposed'' bit
the three inventors listed were not truly determined to have AS but have symptoms of it, that is not concrete enough. And you also have to look at what truly defines AS, frankly I'm beginning to think I was misdiagnosed. The spectrum is getting larger by the second because of the researchers. They will define any individual characteristic in a set syndrome in an attempt to understand it. Many of these people are outside the traditional definition for what you'd call autistic. This in effect proves there can be no evolutionary superiority if the criteria change constantly over time.
All only speculated at one point or another to have AS. I don't believe it myself. However, the current Wikipedia list of people on the autistic spectrum features a few successful pop music stars, a Nobel Laureate and a Fields Medalist. Certainly these people have more going for them than their long-term memory. I'm not sure whether AS was really a help to them in this regard either, I imagine they're talented people with or without considering the traits.
I have a few quirks which may stem from my motor and social deficiencies, but that's about everything that makes me different from an NT as far as I can tell. I can only speak for myself because I haven't met all that many other people with AS, and those I have I never really got to know. But with what little I do know I can't take claims of "superiority" seriously, or even really begin to understand them.
Maybe I read MORE than you think I do, and even more than you think you write!
After saying all the stuff about AI.
You brought that up along the vien of:
There is nothing that convinces me that people with AS are superior for having the ability to simply store information. They cannot use that information to develop new facts and values or invent. The only people who have done this are few and far between.
Can't use info!?!?!? The inability to use info devalues ANY ability to store it. It also gets rid of the idea of any hope for wisdom.
Though it COULD be said the whole thing was a quote, YOU quoted it and said nothing besides that, and the other items dispute this your above claim.
GLAD TO HEAR IT! Did you MEAN to say that? Freudian slip?
Do you think I am the one that made that comment!?
In any event, you are starting to sound like someone else, or perhaps you made the statements because you feel they apply to you.
