After watching the entire film, I have decided that the overall impression that it leaves is much more positive than negative. The movie's positive and hopeful message outweighs it's few bits of false information in my opinion.
It is better for a parent to think "My child has a disease but they can still learn to do everything that every other kid can do" than it is for them to think "What my child has is not a disease, but they will never be a functional member of society".
Also, even though Adam's mom calls Autism a disease, Lexi's mom explains later in the movie how Lexi made her realise that she is "different", not "wrong".

I just chalk it up to, "we all say stupid things when we're upset".
But yeah, Adam's mom was rather annoying.
