I'd like to see a few links to places that actually hire people, rather than route them to websites that are designed to just gather personal data or to sell something.

:D

No shortage of sites like that.

What about the reverse of the idea? That is, promote the idea of hiring autistic spectrum people, emphasizing the positive traits, and then let them come looking for you.

I'm actually a team-lead in an operation that I think might be better run by Aspies. (Sorry, we're not hiring right now. You probably wouldn't want to work there anyway. They're crappy jobs anyway, but would be better than nothing. Besides, you pretty much have to be related to a current employee to get in.) The clerks I have are constantly socializing around the office, and encouraging others to come into our work area to socialize. Somebody comes in and the work stops. They complain alot, and frequently have inappropriate conversations. My employer doesn't care. If I tried to keep some order, I'd just get in trouble for being mean to them. Otherwise, they'd be getting a piece of my mind several times a day until they shut up and work.

Anyway, the reason I think spectrum people would be better for it is because it's boring, repetitive work that requires attention to detail. It's clerical "McJobs", but it would make a good starting point while you look for something better. Too bad I can't hire anyone now.

Speaking of which, it's time for me to shut this computer down and leave for work. Hell awaits...

Wouldn't an Aspie job board basically single us out, and make us look like we can't handle "Normal" jobs, and therefore reinforce the idea of us being disabled?

This was my thought exactly. I would never use it for this reason. I would never want to apply for a job that considered an "Aspie" job because therefore it's inferring that it's not as good as a normal job.

No. It simply means they don't want to get involved in the manipulative office politics and s**t like that. It can also be phrased to say you want a job where you can do what you like doing.

http://www.auties.org/faq I think has some
