What do you mean by function?

Function = succeed in doing the things one needs to do in society satisfactorily enough to remain a part of it. Things like sustainance, relationships, dwelling, etc.

Within my definition... of function... Not well.

Yes I own my home, I had a job before I got injured. But I have a tendency to job hop, because I get bored or I get sick of the political BS and the people that participate in it.

I am somewhat educated, no where near where I want to be.

I am unable to hold friendships because I can't lie, I can't filter out unsolicited information people ask for but really don't want to hear. I find a lot of the information they find "fun" to talk about boring as hell.

I care too much what people think of me.

I have some mild ticks & moderate OCD.

I do have a husband & chldren. My children are good kids & they function well. They are the one thing in my life I can say I did a really good job at...

Overall I feel cheated by my AS because I am not able to do the things I want to do. AS limits my ability to have a normal life. I am too smart in some ways & too stupid in others...

I have a job, my own apartment, and a boyfriend. I don't go out often except for going to work and going shopping at The Dollar Tree or taking my boyfriend to the grocery store. Sometimes I go to Wal Mart if I need other things.

Well... I have trouble taking care of myself, and I can't live on my own or drive a car... But I'm getting noticeably better at social interaction. Go me!

I do well enough. I take care of myself, go to school and have a job. I might be eccentric in some ways, and I might not be all that social (I avoid social functions and other stressful things involving people when I have no incentive to go whatsoever aside from "keeping up appearances" or whatever. ), but I do what I have to do. My aim is not to fit in to society, but to make the best life for myself as me, and maybe be known for it. I'll do what's necessary to survive, but I'm only playing their game for my own ends, not out of any like for fitting in.

I don't drive either, but that's nothing special (though it is considered "backwards" for someone my age)
I live with ma; without her, I'd probably be in a rental house with a bunch of other Autistic people (that's what they do here for those with Asperger's/HFA)
I don't study, though I'm working on it (I was, and I have completed a few university subjects, but I lost interest/was too overwhelmed by all of the people)

I can do much of the "home" and "yard" stuff when I have a routine worked out, and also grocery shop. I can do very well at study if it's in a one on one environment, and it'll probably be the same when I [hopefully] work. I can also look after animals/people, as for some reason, I don't need a routine to help others. I can hunt and prepare said prey; I can make fire, traps and weapons--I know a whole heap of "survival" skills.

I'm more "primitive", really.

That's very interesting.

I would be lost without modern technology. My idea of how to make fire is to turn on the gas stove.

I haven't quite figured out the whole 'society' thing yet, and I haven't tried to for a few years, but I'm about to make another go at it and this time I expect that I'll actually function quite well since this will be the first time I've tried it knowing why it's extra hard for me.

I have a diploma qualification and a job. My occupation takes place in an office so the interraction with outside is very minimal. I don't have to deal with clients or answer phones, but I know I'm only NOT doing those things because my employer knows I'll have great trouble doing them.
Every lunchtime I usually walk through town and buy lunch at the shopping centre food court. Once in a while, I am sent to do an errand or delivery for the receptionist, so I'm not always in the back of the office out of sight.

I still live at home, but I have a car and a licence. Still, that doesnt mean I get out and about a lot. There's nothing to do in my car except drive around the same old coastal headlands route, or drive to Coles and buy junk food.

I guess you could say I'm functioning in society, but not interracting with it as much as needed for me to truly feel a part of it.

it seems that i appear to function better than NTs.

this was not always the case.

Personal space reality modeling and psychology textbooks are 90 percent of the difference.

the rest was, strangely due to my only friend who was a sociopath cluing me in.

All most of you need is coping mechanisms and schema. I'd think this place would have more of those.

I'll second that. I made it through, you just have to learn yourself and learn how to deal with people in a different way I suppose. For me, dealing with others never came naturally. Then again, neither did reading or playing the piano. They were things I learned. You have to learn to smile and nod a lot. Society/culture is a system just like anything else. You can generalize certain rules.

It's never perfect. When there is some mishap, some ugly social misunderstanding, I usually laugh about it to myself. If I don't take things too seriously, I find I am more successful in my pursuits.

I'm an actress, people watch but never know what I'm thinking of, until I decide to tell them. They get angry very often

Sure, i make aspie related errors all the time. On the whole however, for instance I'm doing better than either candidate for president.

at least as far as solving real world problems goes. (check out my site.)
