My lawyer never reviewed my case before court. It was crazy, my judge acted like he knew more about what was going on than my own attorney. I actually had an opportunity to sue him but I didn't. He had my files mixed up with another client!! ! I never knew people were allowed to be THAT stupid! I mean I could've been someone accused of murder!
See all you need to do is become "academically smart" in a field that is in great demand. You get your little piece of paper called a degree and then you're off in the real world ready to make some real money.
I haven't been in a courtroom often, but one of the few times I was, one of the lawyers (representing a woman with no money to hire a better one) was that bad. The judge had to keep prompting her to cite laws and such, and the person sitting next to me, who was a layperson, knew more of the relevant law than the lawyer did. Meanwhile another lawyer there (for a corporation, of course) was slimy and underhanded but smart enough to get a case together that would be convincing. It was painful to watch.
