I hate spiders! Encounters usually happen when I am in the shower.

Creepy!

I like spider the time I had a garden spider living in the kitchen made me feel calm. They do a good job of controlling that thing that would spread diseases. They can be cute too. I used to blow on her gently and she would recoil a little scrunching her legs. :D

Some spiders are really smart like the portia jumping spider.

I'm not scared of any invertebrates that aren't slimy. On the other hand, I'm scared of snails (or more precisely: Their slime).

The only spiders I'm really afraid of are tarantulas. I don't want a spider on me, but I won't go out of my way to stomp on one, either. My husband and one of my brothers are extremely arachnophobic.

Once, when traveling through Arizona USA, I saw a tarantula in the wild. Scrared me half to death ! ! Big and hairy, and it lifted it's front lags menacingly. Thos who were with me thought it quite amusing. I later heard how they're not dangerous, and so forth. But they look scary ! ! (We used to have someone on these boards who had a pet tarantula, but I for get her name.)

all spiders are venomous...but venom in spiders is only the term that is used to describe the fluid they require to digest their food...kind of like how we have bile i guess.

black widow spiders do have very strong venom...but a bite from one of them rarely is fatal, especially since there is now an antivenom... but a bite usually will only cause bad swelling and discomfort b/c of the shallow depth they are able to puncture into your skin... a brown recluse bite is much more dangerous and more frequently fatal..

i love spiders!

Not at all. I even sometimes relocate them with my bare hands if I can't find anything else to move them with. My favorite are the little furry jumping spiders. Their binocular eyes make them seem so intelligent, how they have to face what they are looking at the way an animal does. And how they stalk and pounce their food the way a cat does. They're so cool, how could anyone hate them? Besides, spiders eat mosquitoes.

When I was a kid, I loved spiders. I'd catch them (nothing huge here in Washington) and I always wanted a tarantula, but my parents would never go for it. I don't know how or why it changed, but I'm terrified of them now. I feel the ever impending doom while just reading this thread.

I personally don't have a fear of spiders, but during football practice when I was in high school I would pick up daddy-long-legs spiders I would find and walk towards the 300 pound linemen, and some would run away from this teensy little harmless spider yelling "GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME" XD... Okay it may be a bit harsh but really, just a little spider, and I only held it like 4 feet from them minimum.

I'm not afraid of spiders. There are no dangerous ones where I live. But when I was a kid it was a bit strange because my 2 sisters were both afraid of them, and I wondered why, when they weren't dangerous, but if they found one, I always had to catch it, they didn't dare. I didn't want to kill it though, it was quite innocent  but I threw it alive out of the window.
The strange thing was that all other girls I knew were afraid of spiders. So I was kind of different in that way too. :P But a very good difference it was (is).
I wonder if it's more common among NTs to be afraid of spiders than among aspies? It could seem so, looking at this thread.
(BTW I guess the spider is the one that has the best reason to be afraid! 8O  )

yep

only time i ever screamed in fright was when that horror pic long ago (some cheap B-movie) had slowly built up - from the tiniest little spider appearing in the sink and being flushed down, followed by a slightly bigger one, &c &c, to its shattering climax when soft screaky sound was heard, somewhat like but certainly not akin to nails over blackboard, not akin: with the unmistakable feature of being alive

and i knew enough, and i knew what was coming,
for i knew that sound and not only from an early Bond-movie
(i think You Only Live Twice), no,
i had heard it in africa when we were very young

but i had to watch the man follow the loudening sound, not to the kitchen, but left, and to a bedroom, and opening that closet door
and found myself screaming when out came the expected hairy tarantula,
somewhat unexpectedly sized hound-of-the-baskervilles

nah, not my scene, whatever the size
i don't panic, and my complete mental control is informed by mortal fear only

not too fond of snakes either, but you can at least make heads&tails of 'm

I have a phobia of just about anything and everything that can be lumped under the word "bug". That definitely includes spiders.
Also butterflies, bees, ants, ect, ect...
