Are you blunt and abrasive? I never thought so, although you do seem to have strong opinions (no offense intended there, I think that´s a good thing...at least you know what you think).

For years, people told me I was blunt and abrasive (in real life), although I didn´t mean to be myself, and didn´t even notice it...(I often thought they were the ones who were abrasive). Now no one says this about me anymore. I have no idea what I´m doing differently, and, as I wasn´t very aware of the original behavior, I don´t know what it was that I´ve changed...unless the people around me nowadays are just more tolerant? Well, who knows...

I don't dislike you I dislike some of the stuff you say, a little more thought put into how you words would allow you to convey your opinion with equally strong opinions without rubbing so many people the wrong way.

And what's the big sin about being blunt and abrasive, anyway? I believe if you're not afraid of facing the truth (the fact that the king is nude) then you don't have a problem with blunt people.

Blunt = (dictionary) Characterized by directness in manner or speech; without subtlety or evasion; Devoid of any qualifications or disguise or adornment.

Well, none of your posts to my memory have made me want to reach through the computer and smack you repeatedly. That right there is saying something (at least something that couldn't be said for other members here). It could be that we just don't end up on opposite sides in discussions often enough, or that you phrase your arguments in a way that even if I don't agree with them, I can respect them. So no, I don't dislike you.

Question: Has anyone here actually met Ishmael? Had drinks with him? Eaten a meal with him?

And not to side-track a (questionable) thread, but does anyone really, really believe they know someone enough to like or dislike based on posts in a chat forum?

I'll go first: No.
It's all just words on a screen. To know me- or think you know me- you'de better have spent some face-to-face time with me.

Not many member live in Adelaide, South Australia, so I'd be surprised if anyone's met him IRL. The AS population is small and widespread here compared to the US and UK.

Yeah you can be an annoying, self righteous, uninformed prick. But hey so can I.

I like sparing with you. At least you have views, even though they are wrong

I don't believe that your views are even particularly nasty, unlike some of the homophobic and racist views I have seen expressed by others.

So if the mods have been giving you a hard time I would suggest they back off, if you get too bombastic someone will take you on and put you back in your box, happens to me all the time

Never know I might pop up in Adelaide and we can argue over a couple of beers

EDIT: We will probably argue about WHICH beer is better, you of course will be wrong :D

YES!! !
Everyone has different sides that come out in different situations.
His mother might know a few things that we'll never know,
but I bet we know a part of him that she will never know.
Which is the real Ishmael?

I like my impression of a punk kid with a bad attitude who likes to bang on tables.
If I find out that he's just some wimpy, chubby, bald, middle-aged accountant, that would ruin the whole thing. And it wouldn't be the truth anyway, even if it is the truth.

I guess Ishmael should have posted:

"Who likes or dislikes what they see of Ishmael on WP?"

It's okay Ishmael. You have responded to a post of mine here and there and I had no objections to any of them. You seem likeable to me, on WP, anyways.
