put it this way it took me 5-6 years to realise it was the meds that where screwing me up, and it's estimated that only 1-10% of side effects are known/recorded, let alone actually make it onto the packet/documentation or what's given to the Doctor.

Life expectancy is 25 years less for people taking them [on adv]

They ain't candy that's for sure.

6-8 months of rebound [psychosis / well not quite because I knew it wasn't real, but still scary and disabling enough]
If I hadn't have been in a position to hide away from the Doctors till it was over they may have put me in hospital (actually they tried that one even when I was more-or-less recovered!) and stuck me straight back on them again. Like pretty much everyone else I know who tries to get off the things.

They still keep trying to get me to take the dam things.

I can't find the thread, but recently there was a thread on here about Geodon, and somebody said that Geodon could cause PERMANENT massive weight gain. I have always been fat, but under Geodon and its sister drug Risperdal I ballooned to 300 pounds (5'8" white male) and I can't seem to lose any of it. I am still just under 300 pounds. I briefly lost 20 pds, but it came right back. Did I f*ck myself permanently by taking this stuff? I'm pre-diabetic, and my grandfather died a horrible death due to diabetes. I'm only 34.

How long have you stopped taking them?
My side effects for certain medication took about 6 months to wear off, though I am still allergic to oranges. Don't laugh at that too. I really miss eating oranges and drinking orange juice.

However, I don't think you will permanently stay overweight but it will be very hard to lose weight.
My mum gained weight from an anti-depressant but has lost a bit of weight since then. Sure she was going through a break up and didn't eat...but she's also exercising more now.

That is interesting with the Geodon, because when I was on it, I actually lost weight. Risperdal was the stuff I took years ago, that was the one that made me gain weight.
Years later, I still have trouble with my weight. I'm not saying that I can't lose it, but I seem to gain it easier then before I took the stuff...

The doctor took me off of the antipsychotic all together because i gained too much weight, and the doctor tried about all the antipsychotics and I kept gaining weight like crazy. Now i am on 300 mg of sinaquan, 600 mg neurontin, and 0.5 of xanax. I always had a lot of worries and i worried about lots of things. I did not know what it was called, that it was anxiety. Yes anxiety is when i worry too much.

Geodon has had some issues with weight gain, as far as it being permanent goes, there technically is no such think, what might have happened was a change in your metabolism, and just like you can adjust it to make you weigh more you can also reverse it, frankly ask your doctor about it he should know how to help because certain drugs can help raise your metabolism back to where it should be for your height. As far as Risperdal goes I had taken that for like 13 years and no weight changes so that is probably not the case.

Though I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, Risperdal made me really happy and energetic, but the effect only lasted for two months. I had the same effect with Abilify, also only lasting two months. I had no weight gain with either one.

At least in studies, Geodon is weight neutral and Risperdal results in an average gain of about 6 pounds.

Have been on Geodon for almost 2 years... was overweight (due to Paxil, maybe?) to start and didn't gain or lose weight. However, no matter what I eat or don't eat or exercise I do not lose weight. So, I eat healthy but don't starve, and I exercise daily if I can, either at the gym, in the house, or out for a walk. My doctors and nutrtionist say I'm healthy.
