I still stand out from the freaks on this board. What does that say?

Am I the only one who found this offensive?

I am not a freak. And if I am according to your definition, I'm proud to be one. Learn to love yourself for who you are.

There's a big difference between learning the rules and social niceties of society, and trying to change who you are just to be the same as everyone else.

personally I'm not really offended, I just really don't see him stand out around here at all... at least not in the higher-than-high-functioning sense...

I guess I'm overreacting, sigh. I just really don't like being called a freak. :(

It didn't bother me. Who cares what he says. It didn't give me any effect because I didn't feel anything what he said. Just another dumb ass. They're easy to ignore when they are doing this to everybody.

*Trys to twitch mouth into a smile*.....*Fails*

Eh, I don't use a pic of me as an av on here, anyhow.

You want to see me smile?
(Old-ish school pic. Ignore the writing.)
Yeah.
1) It's hard for me to smile.
2) It's harder for me to smile "right".
3) Smile usally equals a sign to leave me the f*** alone, not me being happy.
4) I look stupid, smiling. I look lost and very..... stupid/out-of-it/not-"right"-mentally.
5) I smile, and people have the habit of calling me "ret*d" more often. :?

Okay, but how about a reason to smile in a photograph?

1. So that people don't point at your photo and go "OMGWTF FREAK!!!11one!"

Nice pic!

Yeah, cute! actually I think you don't look so good in the unsmiling pic. You look angry and unhappy. I like the smiling pic, it brightens up your face.

Mind you it's not that black and white. For example France as a general rule is full of smiling, wine sipping, coffee drinking people. Hence its position as number 1 tourist destination in the world but because its people are generally so content the country is not very creative - it has little reason to be. On the other hand the somewhat stoic and dour Germans have contributed a lot of creativity to engineering and technological inventions because I suppose people there have more reason to avoid talking to others and spend time pursuing a more solitary, intellectual interest.

lol. Ive heard that the Germans tend to be more assholish apparently :?

Let's look at it like this.... Why doesn't everyone like to be hugged? It feels good, what's the problem?

If you saw the picture - you will see that my smiles are obviously fake, the point they are fake shows a real smile says more, I await your learning curve

They look fake to you because you don't have any positive emotion in you. Try feeling happy when you smile.

The smile does not look fake to everyone else.

You assume that if someone is not smiling, they must only have negative emotions in them?

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that is what I was saying. I never said a person has to be smiling whenever they have positive emotions in them. I am only talking about when taking a picture.

No. What you said was: They look fake to you because you don't have any positive emotion in you. Try feeling happy when you smile. Which is why I asked if you think that those who DO NOT SMILE are sad bastards full of negative waves. I never mentioned those who do. You did.

Yes. If every time a person has a picture taken and they NEVER have a smile on their face, they are sad bastards full of negativity.

Can you honestly say that people with AS are just as happy inside as NTs but don't show it? Most people on this board are in denial about their depression. People don't like to admit they are depressed. It is a difficult thing to do.

(I am JWRed. I had to change my username a long time ago because someone was stalking me.)

That's a massive load of s**t. There are pictures of some of the happiest moments in my life and I look like I want to kill someone. My facial expression and my emotional state ate two wildly different and usually unconnected things. You need to stop making vast assumptions. MOST people on this board are different and individual, and very rarely have thes ame mindset or point of view about anything. You, captain stereotype, need to realise this.

It helps me to say "cheeeese" when I am required to smile for a photo. If it is not good enough, oh well!

I tend to always look serious in my pics, even when I am actually quite content. I don't think I look like a 'freak' for not smiling, and I don't think it is any of the OP's business whether 'us people' (nice generalization  ) smile or not. I could practise all day and it still wouldn't come naturally... I think I would look MORE freakish if I forced a smile. Seriously, let people be who they are. No need to be so judgmental, OP.

My smiles always seem fake because they are. I just dont know how to really smile without either overdoing it or underdoing it. So I just do not smile most of the time, especially in pictures.
