A few might be math savants and that is where the stereotype originates. My mathiness resembles dyscalculia more than savantness.
I am more "word" oriented.
I like geometry and graphs :)

I struggled with math for most of my life, once things went beyond the basics. I had an algebra and geometry teacher in high school who got on my case for using a calculator "too much" and then criticized me for mistakes. I later found out in my senior year that I wasn't the only person who had problems with that teacher, as someone said in the yearbook that their most embarrassing moment was "Getting in a fight with Ms (Lastname)."

I'm lucky that there was no exit exam when I was in high school, as I probably wouldn't have gotten my diploma with the rest of my class despite me having a 3.3 GPA.

I only got a 490 on my math portion of the SAT. Now why I remember that 32 years later, I have no idea...;) I do everything backwards in my head anyway.

Never could 'show my work'...I just saw the (often wrong) answer...;)

I agree with a couple of people. It's sterio typical to think one kind fits all in all. Me and my dad hate math, but my unkle was known to be fantastic at it. For me, the numbers seem to just leave my memory so easily, and don't want to stay there. (probably another auditory thing) We three have Aspie traits to some obvious extent. I've been told that I learn very fast though.

Maths used to be my personal hell, as a child I was afraid of numbers ...but right now I´m starting to love them , and because of that, now I could consider myself really good...so no, you´re not alone

I'm one of those mathematical savant types, the stuff stereotypes are made of. Numbers make myriad fascinating patterns, many of which I could "see" since I was a very young child. I can count things almost instantaneously just looking at them (up to 20 or 30, anyway). "Mental math" comes very easy, as do abstract mathematical concepts.

Just don't try asking me to pick a face, even one I have known for years, out of a crowd. Not gonna happen.

Heheh. Don't you feel alone there. My facial recognision isn't very good either. In fact, some people at work get annoyed at me sometimes, even bite my head off after time, for saying "hi" like we first met, even after being 10 minutes to two hours appart. :D I'm that bad.

Math was the only subject I did badly in at school. I've had problems with math, especially geometry, for as long as I can remember. The geometry problem, which is probably related to my difficulties with spatial perception, might stem from brain damage resluting from hydrocephalus. Poor instruction and "math phobia" haven't helped matters.

This is incorrect. There are three basic types of Aspie brains [according to Chantal Sicile-Kira]: the visual thinking mind, the music and maths mind an the non-visual numbers and language translator mind.

Also, just like every other human being, Aspies can either be left-hemisphere thinkers of right-hemisphere thinkers, which has a great impact on their specific talents and/ or interests.

I'm certainly the visual type, which makes sense as I suck at maths, too.

I'm not the best when it comes to Maths, they say Aspies are supposed to be good at numbers, but everybody's different. :)

Unfortunately both the mass media press and hollywood have a preconceived idea of what AS is supposed to be so if you don't live up to their ideals you're considered a throwback of some kind. Math skills have nothing whatsoever to do with autism or AS but everybody would like it to be so.
