Umm, I do not know yet. I have been told that I would never make it on my own. I suppose I will see at this years end. I am sure that I would be able to keep a fairly clean house although there would likely be legos, magnetics, jigsaw puzzles, and random drawings everywhere. Sanitary but very disorganized. Umm, I would likely eat nothing but grilled cheese, broccoli, and pineapples if left to my own devices. Do you think that would make me ill? I am rambling. No, I am not so sure that I could...but we'll see when I turn 18.

that's exactly what my house looks like :P just the "sanitary" part I struggle a lot with.

I eat spaghetti with tomato sauce 4 times a week. and heaps of fruit. chocolate cake in the middle of the night.

it's kinda fun :D

Not yet. I'm not capable of holding down a job yet. One day I think I will be about as independent as the average NT, though I will probably have to work a great deal harder to maintain it.

But you have to ask what "independent" means anyway! Unless you live in the woods and shoot down your dinner with home-made bow and arrows, you're going to depend on people for some things. SpongeBob noted that being too young is one factor; everybody is dependent as a child. Then there's the matter of simply not being able to produce what you need to live--food, clothing, transportation, housing. Somebody else builds your car and grows your food for you. Somebody else probably repairs your leaky faucet or sews your jeans. We're not really "independent" at all, but interdependent.

Oooh, I forgot the spaghetti! I would only have cake on my birthday.

Yes, for most of my adult life, post 23 years of age.

I echo Anna's comments about stimming freely, having things where I want them to be, staying up all night, but it's CDs and strings and random cords and cables everywhere instead of legos. And dust instead of sanitary stuff.

I have those too

I just started to collect records, so soon enough my free floor space will drop to zero.

and as to dust- I tend to sweep it all under cupboards, then hoover it when it becomes solid

I think I will be able to, just give me 1-2 years more.

Need to get drivers licence, then once I have that I can attempt to seek out a decent job (as I will now have the ability to transport myself there), then a place to live, then I'm set :P
I know in reality its not that easy. For a while I'll reckon I'll need trusted people to help provide advice if I need it. So living independently but with backups, I guess

Once I find myself a better paying job I will be able to move back out again and be independent.

I do alright independantly, I guess. I had a problem with credit cards for awhile so I'm currently enrolled in a debt consolidation program to help me pay off my debt. If it wasn't for my debt, I'd be doing find financially. I'm renting a house, have a decent car (2004 Kia Rio, big whoop I know), and...well, I USED to pay my bills on time until I had a slight financial crisis sort of thing....my credit rating was VERY close to being perfect. I don't even want to know what it looks like now. I'm also a team specialist for the hospital I work at...which basically makes me a supervisor when the supervisor has a day off or vacation. In a couple of years I should be supervisor on one of the shifts.

Although I do have trouble maintaining cleanliness at home...my girlfriend has become quite irate with me over that. But I do alright I guess *shrugs*

Well I have been married since I was shy of 24 and have 2 kids... and I work from home, own a house, car, pay the bills, go grocery shopping..so yeah I live an independent life but I guess like anyone else, I need help in some areas of my life.. luckily my family has been a good help to me. I read some bull from somewhere that claimed that only 20% of people under the spectrum will be able to live a fully independent life. Either I am part of the 20% or they are completely full of s**t.

It is possible short term, so many times I want to move out, be freeee! But I like my room to remain uninterrupted. It wouldn't be right if recreated in the new place. Did anyone confront this kind of attatchment? It threw me out completely at university, another reason for leaving.

*Laughs a little bitterly*
I'd love to be independant, but I doubt it'll ever happen...

I guess the current definition for "independent" is a house [that your work "bought" via a loan], a wife, three kids, one dog and cat each, and possibly a mistress or two on the side (exchange wife and mistresses for a husband if you're female).

I can't say that I am capable of such.

I'm of the whole, group home or institute level of disability in today's society (they don't do this latter thingy anymore over here in Oz), even though I can do many things: I can do farmhand stuff, looking after animals, basic and advanced maintenance, house cleaning and all of that fun stuff--I can shop and pay bills (I have to walk, ride, or drive with a trusted individual; I can't drive myself, and public transport is one of those cold day in hell events). I just can't do the working/interacting with other people thingy, and I can't organize anything, so people have to tell me what to do (I need a day or two before I can actually follow through with the orders as I have to mentally make a routine/plan for it).

A couple of hundred years ago, and no one would have thought any different of me.
