Oh, it's just a kid from one of those places where the common folk have difficulty understanding that a governing body is not static...
"The government", bearing that horrendous ambiguity of any blanket assertion.
Which government? Which party, what policies, what nation, what measure would public opinion and social change sway that government? What economic and cultural concerns? Any existing national crisises? "The government" is a rather naive view.

Oh, thank goodness! A cure! It's a good thing we have on-the-ball, 18-year-olds like yourself to surf the internet and find this information. Thank you!

My karma ran over your dogma.

Sarcasm- I'd recognize that tone anywhere.
Seriously, I think many here are just at a loss as to what this thread was really all about- so I wouldn't be overly surprised if some responses aren't in allignment with your sentiment.

I apologize. I don't mean to bash you, and my sarcasm may have been immature. It's just that you came across as if you were so sure you had the answer. It was a bit like when people come to my door and try to tell me that the answer to all my problems (which they know nothing about) is to get right with Jesus. I can't help but respond with a little eye-rolling and sarcasm.

But I do apologize. If you truly meant well, and I suppose you did, then I shouldn't have been harsh.

... so do you mean to say AD(H)D meds reduce autistic symptoms?

Right, I'm confused now.

Or was that just a comparison?

Because methylphenidate does not usually even remotely touch autistic symptoms you know. Make them worse, mess with them, but not reduce the actual autism. It can make things such as flapping go away, but usually a new behaviour will start.

You would?

Oh heck, you went ahead and had the cure without us? I did not know Robert Smith swung that way. Was it just like heaven?

Here's my understanding of what the OP is about:

Hey people with AS - stop making a fuss about a cure. It's not for you, it's for LFA. It's not about aborting you, killing you, or changing you into another person. It's about treatment that will make all your AS symptoms go away so you'll be a normal functioning human being.

Atleast that's what I responded to in my earlier post.

Perhaps blanket statements in general are naive. Blanket statements about cures for autism, about government, about the intelligence a person based on their country of origin...

Or it may even be, as Mr. Mark Twain said, All generalizations are false...including this one!

Okay, I'm definitely in the ranks of the thoroughly confused (hi guys!). I've read this thread over three times and I still don't know what the hell it's about. This is what my befuddled mind can muster at this point in time:

1. Chimchar seemed to be saying that talk about a "cure" is about medication for severely low-functioning auties, and not for anyone else.

2. Others seem to differ, er, vehemently. Is this because "cure" talk is about medicating *everyone* on the spectrum? Or because it's about turning us into NTs generally, however that is accomplished? In other words, are people angry because Chimchar is misstating the case?

3) If you're angry that Chimchar is misstating the case, why all the anger? Why not just provide evidence to the contrary? I don't know much about the "cure" folks, but it sounds like if you drop the word "cure" into the conversation, all hell breaks loose.

Come on, guys, help me out here. I have a high verbal IQ and I can't figure out what in G-d's name you're all talking about.

Aha, either you like The Cure, or you do not. I think it's ok, although personally I liked it more when I was younger.

i'm pretty sure that a cure would rewire my brain and rob me of my complex musical-processing centre...which would make me lose about half my talent over night...it'd be awful.x
