KOR, do you think Alex would be amenable to the idea of going vBulletin and upgrading the hosting package to accommodate the high traffic - as at busy times, it gets pretty choked ?
Sure, he doesn't want it costing him - but I'm sure if it's ad.s he's trying to avoid running too many of, folk would be happy to donate to upgrade.
(He may be running ad.s - but I don't see them, as I run an ad-killer).

Hell, he could even run a cross-forum poll to gauge opinion.

I love WP because for the first time in my life, outside of my mum (Who I suspect has AS) I'm surrounded (virtually of course) by people who make actual sense! It's amazing! I didn't thing such people existed.

It's like I found the back door out of the Asylum, and while it maybe quite chaotic out here it sure is nice to have some fresh air after so many years surrounded by madness and being told that it was sanity!

i'd like to be a donating member again because i spend so much time here. but i have such horrible budget skills, but i might be able to do $20 a month. i have a cell phone now and i need to save money for my fire agate ring and budget for food though

agreed,vbulletin would be great,is a lot better for both admin/mod and regular user,if am remembering what have read correctly-because WP is so hacked it would take a very very very etc long time to convert to VB,and am sure have read somewhere that some of it is not convertible-and better hosting would be great,am think [trying to remember,could be wrong] that Alex runs WP off his own server,than using a hosting service so it may not be possible to upgrade,though have thought,what about mirror connections-wp users who have their own servers mirror WP so the use gets spread out,dont know how that could be set up-but it is run like that for other sites to spread out use.

or,some way to make all high bandwith WP members- supernodes,like with some p2ps,sharing it all,could there be a way to do that with WP? cant be many WPers who wouldn't want to help.

But how much of the existing site would need to be savedt/transferred ?
Not necessarily a huge amount.

Members running as mirrors would need advice on what utilities to run to limit traffic volume and bandwidth, so as not to breach their broadband monthly limits.

I'd have thought using a decent commercial host would be feasible, given the willingness of much of the membership to contribute.
