Also what should I do with this issue? (I don't see them as that much as an issue but it does pop to mind when she brings them up.)

This isn't your problem, it's hers. She's obviously just embarrassed, in that case her inability to deal with it is her issue.

You are already self medicating yourself simply by stimming, that's what it is, that is why your body does it. It calms you. Tell her you would be even harder to live with if you stopped as you wouldn't have an outlet to your stress. If you stop one stim another develops anyway. Stimming doesn't make you a bad person, it's who you are. It's natural.

You could tell her that there are some meds she can take so that she is less affected by stims going on around her.

Mostly others are unaffected by my stims except they notice them and think they're weird sometimes.

I have this thing where I jog my leg when I'm sitting and leaning forward. My husband calls me "Thumper" when I do that, after the rabbit in "Bambi". That's the only one he seems to focus on.

ya know its funny, when im the most upset i dont stim as much as i usually do, instead i;m extremely self injurious and aggressive, no stimming, but on a normal basis, i stim, rock, flap, bite, bounce, jump, headshake(big headshaker). We went to pa today and at the mall, all i did was headshake like craaazzzy, and flap, and sway back and forth.

Well thanks for the positive comments I agree it might be an embarrassment but I don't do it in public and usually just at home but at odd times either nervous (like another poster said) or get this when you are talking to me?? Odd you are talking to me and I'm moving my clasp/ring I think you'd think I wasn't listening or it distracts from her speaking to me etc. Truthfully why should I be nervous when family are talking to me (usually in a nice conversation not anything angry mind you) :-) Thanks again!! ! :-)

Well, now there are at least three people in this world who are "Thumpers," make that four...a girl I grew up with did it, too. And two of us are NT's. NT's do plenty of annoying things, too, like bite their nails, drum their fingers, smack their chewing gum. Your sister probably has some habits that annoy people, too. She probably just doesn't notice them because she is the one doing them.

Pace on and let her be happy you are not being violent to yourself or to her!

I often bounce my legs when I'm reading or writing an exam or even just on the pc here. Usually its more of a side-to-side motion that I do to avoid disturbing anybody with the noise. Most often I don't noticeably stim because when I get the urge I usually clench my fist until it stops shaking. I don't understand what people's issues with stimming are, I remember there were students in my high school who I think back upon as probably having AS that did this frequently and would often get a lot of flak from teachers and other students. On the other hand, there were students in the class lighting s**t on fire in the back or rolling joints so I fail to see the comparison in disturbing people or making them uncomfortable.

My dad taps his foot and he has ADHD, my bf does the same too and I tell him to stop because it vibrates the couch and it annoys me. He doesn't realize he is doing it so I have to tell him. I also tap mine.

My mother used to chew her nails she said but I dunno how old she was when she stopped. I knew plenty of kids in my school who tapped their pencils and we all found it annoying, messed with things like their bracelets, and of course drumming their fingers.

I remember when I drummed my fingers on my notebook in the special ed room, the special ed teachers made a big deal about it.

One of my boyfriends gave me a little slap on the hand if I scratched my hands/arms or grinded my teeth. I'm not sure if teeth grinding is a stim.
I get weird looks from my teeth licking stim.

I am on the other side. I am the one who suffers from stimming. My classmates bounce lags, click pens, drum with their pensils. It is generally ok, but I really cannot concentrate when I write an exam or a test or listen to the lecture when there is something moving or jumping or bumping or clicking around me. Just cannot focus. So I have hard time... even though those people (I guess?) are mostly NTs.

yes.

I get told that I do all of these things with varying degrees of reprimand, depending on the person and situation:

drum my fingers incessantly (I'm even sort of doing it now, as I am typing), tapping fingers or feet, patting knees, swinging feet, bouncing feet, rocking, swaying, nodding head, or any combination of these.

My mother half-jokingly complains when I bounce my foot constantly at the dinner table (her way of pointing it out is to say "Rachel, your foot is having a fit"; which I find quite funny.)
My brothers both do it as well; I can see how it'd be annoying to have the floor shaking when you're trying to eat (and I'm sure it doesn't help that even if we manage to stop when someone complains, it gets changed into drumming our cutlery on the table  ).

My AS son stims more when he is upset. His usual stims are 1) pacing and 2) twirling a drumstick or pencil through his fingers. Sometimes it's annoying for me, but I try hard to remember that it is important for him to have this outlet. Some of us have outlets that are easily heard/seen and some have outlets that are not, AS or NT. I'm an NT with ADHD and I'm a knee bouncer. I've bounced my knee since I remember. It does get annoying for others sometimes and so I try to keep it controlled when I'm at workshops or other places when I have to share a table or be close to others.

A tip for stimmers: Do your stims quietly. It helps.
