It's your move topic
I will be moving again when my assisted housing comes through. I am here temporarily while I wait. In thirteen years I have moved 4 times. Not bad. I am a neatnik and I like order and not things flung everywhere, so I like my ordered privacy.

Ive moved 11 times in the last 5 years, and am going to be moving again soon. I absolutely hate moving, as Ive had to pretty much restart every time. Its total crap. I sometimes seriously wonder whether Im capable of functioning properly in society at all. Its enough to want to make one final move to Vatican City(country with the smallest population iir)
Good explanation, and I'd also throw into the mix an above average vulnerability to antisocial behaviour, neighbour problems and perhaps being a target in the neighbourhood. Or maybe that's part of what you meant by unstable housing.
Well, that's fine assuming you are a Catholic. But I presume this is more to do with the Vatican City having the smallest number of people? Well, it's surrounded by the city of Rome, a big city. In America there are any number of small, remote towns where there's a similar population, but that depends on whether life in a small town would give you privacy.

Someone mentioned on another thread that maybe it's a kind of stim, maybe moving a lot. I had to get away from psycho neighbours in my last place, and being a low income renter most of my life, I often had to move, often noise or floor plans were so horrible you want to move. Maybe I'm just a perfectionist about housing.
I know a schizoid guy who's rented the same flat for 25 years. It would be nice to only live in the one place but I guess you have to be prepared to put up with a lot.
am had one LD/DD institution placement, got moved to a completely unsuitable residential home when they closed the institution down-was moved out of that one in a stupidly rushed and unplanned emergency placement for fighting a resident back, moved into another residential home which had exactly the same problems if not worse as the other one-again showing they hadnt done risk assessments.
so that is all in a total of four years, still waiting to be moved into a new residential placement,am havent been able to settle and hate not having that expectancy that the next day,a manager could come and say theyve found a new home, like they may do now,it has messed with head a lot.
one of the things am hate is the extreme lack of choices of residential homes for those classed as severely autistic/high complex needs, as all the homes that council/social worker/NAS has looked at so far,all have at least one shouty autistic, the NAS for some reason do not do residential homes specifically for s/autistic who need to be without shouty residents,it also doesnt help the search that need a ground floor res,and one that isnt community based, though council have said they will be getting sound proofing put in it and a sensory room-all sounds very permenant and no moving around after that one,but will have to wait it and see, cant trust anything they say until can see it.

Until I was about 9 years old my family never moved. Then crap happened, and we moved around A LOT. Probably 30 or more times by the time I was 15. Quite a few of those moves were from one motel room to the other (in the same motel, as some had a "28 day rule"), but I still count those, as living in a spot for a month or so and having to move out is just as unsettling and difficult and plain torturous as moving after a year or so. This really has nothing to do with AS, or whatever, but I do feel restless as it is right now, and if I could move, I would... I absolutely hate moving, but I get so effing restless and tired of seeing the same crap every day. The fact that my life is pretty pointless as it is probably contributes to that line of thinking.

"...do you really think you're in control...?"
Diagnosis: uncertain.
From when i was born to when I was 18, we moved 3 times. The first I don't remember, but the house I do remember living in we weren't allowed to go out because of a bad kid who lived next door. When my parents got fed up with it, they moved, promsing us we'd be free to go out anytime since that kid wouldn't be there.
We moved, then after a few months and a feud with some of the neighbors, we were placed back on lockdown again just like in the other house. It lasted a long time and we were eventually allowed to go out some again, but still, very restricted, and we weren't allowed to talk to anyone in the neighborhood. It didn't bother my sister at all, but it did bother me. What bothered me the most was we were promised it would be different, but it actually ended up being the same way all over again. The broken promise bothered me more than the lockdown did.
10 years later when I finished high school, the family moved to another town and my parents said I could live with them and go to college in the new town, which I thought would be nice. What I thought would be nice too was my sister was supposed to go away to graduate school and my parents promised me I'd be free to live as I chose without having to worry about her. She decided not to go so she lived with us for another 2 years and of course, tried to have her hand in every aspect of my life, with my parents helping her of course. Their new excuse for my having to do whatever she wanted was she needed my support because she wanted to go to medical school. I don't see how my not going shopping with her, to football games with her, etc., when she wanted to was going to keep her out of medical school, but my parents claimed if I didn't go with her, it would upset her because I didn't support her in what she wanted to do. She also tried to restrict my study time, since for some reason, she didn't want me studying all the time.
After graduating, I moved to an apartment, then another, and then a condo all within 3 years. After that I moved into my parents' home because of illness, where I stayed for several months. I then moved to an apartment in another town and stayed there for 5 years. Right before I got married, I was able to buy a house with my fiancee' and have been there for almost 8 years. I hope I don't have to move again for quite a long time, we like our home and have put alot of work into it.
Another type of moving I did growing up was changing schools. Between grades 1-8, I went to 6 different schools, with the longest I stayed in one being around 2 years. The longest I stayed in any school was high school, where I actually stayed 4 years, even though I wish I hadn't. My parents wouldn't transfer me out in spite of the poor treatment I got from the students and the staff, even though they transferred my sister out of more than one school for lessor things than I had to deal with.

I've moved too many times to count, and I'm really sick of moving.
In fact, I've moved so much, I can no longer feel comfortable enough to really settle where I live. I never unpack completely. I use simple, disposable decorations. I avoid buying furniture. Almost all my furniture is stuff I found dirt cheap at yard sales or free on a sidewalk.
I frequently day dream about having a permanent home and a stable routine in my life, including a stable, reliable source of income. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm not giving up on the idea. In the mean-time, I'm just happy that I'm not homeless.

Yeah I think this is the core of my problem, I'm come to see moving all the time as normal and natural. I don't ever feel at home or settled.
My mother would get us to move every two years or so. I think she would just get bored, but quite often she was running away from problems and situations with people.
I grew up reinventing myself every couple of years, this continued into my adult life.

Growing up, I lived with my parents & my two brothers. We all lived together in the same house until January of 1994, just before I turned nine years old, when my parents separated. My mother stayed in the same house, and my father moved out in to a nearby house that he rented. I would spend half of my time with my mother at her house & the other half of my time with my father at his house. They got back together the next year, and he moved back in to our house with me & my two brothers.
We all stayed in the house until Saturday, 25 May, 1996, when I was 11 years old, and we moved in to a big, new house a few miles away. At first it was sad to leave the house where I grew up in, but I was excited to be moving on to bigger & better things. It was also the first time I had my own bedroom, since I used to share my bedroom with my younger brother. We all stayed at that house together until Saturday, 15 January, 2000, when my parents filed for divorce, and my older brother went away to college & moved out. Once again, my mother stayed in the house, and my father moved out & rented an apartment nearby, and I spend half of my time with my mother & the other half of my time with my father. We had that house & apartment until August of 2003, when I was 18 years old. We sold the house, and my father moved out of the apartment. My mother moved in to a smaller house nearby, and my father moved in to a small house that he rented. My younger brother went away to college in the Summer of 2006, but I stayed here in San Diego with my parents.
My mother kept the house for the rest of her life, and in July of 2010, when I was 25 years old, my father moved in to a new house with his current wife. This time, I was not happy in my father's house, and I spent a lot more time with my mother. I still had the same arrangement with my parents where I would spend half of my time with my father & the other half of my time with my mother. I used to alternate between houses, where I would spend the night at my father's house, and the next night at my mother's house, which I had been doing since 2000.
Things did not work out between me, my father, and his wife, and finally, in Fall of 2012, when I was 27 years old, we decided that it was time for me to move out & find my own place to live. We found an nice apartment nearby & signed a lease for it. At the same time, my mother became very ill, so I started spending less time with her. She went to the hospital on Christmas of 2012, and the doctor diagnosed her with HIV. She spent the last 3 months of her life at home with a friend of nurse friend of hers who took care of her. I went over to my mother's house & saw her for the last time on my 28th birthday in March of 2013. My mother died on Saturday, 30 March, 2013, and shortly afterward, her house was put up for sale. I packed all of my things up & moved everything in to my apartment. On the day my mother died, I started staying at my apartment permanently.
I lived in the apartment until 2015, when my grandfather bought me a condominium for my 30th birthday, which is where I currently live. I could not move in right away because of legal problems due to the sale, so I stayed in my apartment in the meantime. I was allowed to stay there until Monday, 31 August, 2015, when my lease ended. I had to go back & stay with my father & his wife at their house, which was a nightmare for me. I finally moved in to the new condominium on Friday, 11 September, 2015, and I started unpacking that weekend. It took me a while for me to get comfortable & happy in my new place, but I like it now. My plan is to stay here for the rest of my life, and hopefully, I will never have to move again.

I've just broken my record for staying in one place at 11 years. For much of my life, I have maintained a workshop/dwelling combination, finding various bargains, but those are always precarious in a rising market. Now, it takes me years feel secure enough to set up in a new place, and then I get nervous about having to move, it has happened so often. The process of remembering where everything is now, and where to get supplies, etc, takes years out of my life.
Someone mentioned on another thread that maybe it's a kind of stim, maybe moving a lot. I had to get away from psycho neighbours in my last place, and being a low income renter most of my life, I often had to move, often noise or floor plans were so horrible you want to move. I don't think I use it as a stim so much as just a way of resetting my outlook on life when I crave change, which is often.
I average 3-6 months per location, sometimes I stay in the same general area for a few years, but not the same house/apartment. I've also lived in ten different states, to the best of my recollection. Of course, I've never been in a relationship, don't have kids or pets, don't come from a close knit family, and can usually fit everything I own in my car. Plus, I get bored with jobs after I learn them and just start working somewhere else, which only takes me a few months. In the last 35 years I've only stayed at the same job for a year or more 3 times, the longest stretch being 2 years. So I really have nothing to keep me from just pulling up stakes and moving some place new, whether for employment opportunities or just a fresh start.
