I don't have a PDD. I'm just here to better understand my son ('classic' autsim) and generally where he's headed as he grows up. I've also found myself trying to shed a little insight into WTF NTs are doing and thinking when they do 'that'. And maybe help bridge the gap a bit.

So I'm a "tourist" in that I'm a visitor to a different land, gawking around at the locals. I mean well, I do it for what [I think] are noble reasons. But sometimes my chattering and lack of understanding could be annoying. Such is the way of tourists. :)

P.S. Great question!

Mine is from the cult classic British TV series "The Prisoner." For those who haven't seen it, the story is of this high ranking government intelligence official who all of a sudden resigns. He ends up being captured and taken to a place called The Village, where people are all assigned numbers in place of their names.

He refuses to wear his number, and in the opening credits of the series, when the leader of the Village tells him "You are Number 6" he responds "I am not a number, I am a free man!" Another thing he often said was "I am not a number, I am a person." Although I've never been given a number, I have had labels slapped on me which are supposed to define who I am, which I truly resent. It often isn't about me, it's about the label, which to me isn't much different from being numbered.

That is why I like to say "I am not a number, I am a free man."

I've been obsessed with cars from a very early age, and as far as I can remember Ferrari's have been my favorite - it's a passion that runs through my veins!

I used to use the first two lines of a poem by John Donne

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Becuase I once heard the poem and I thought it was very profound. While a person with classic autism or asperger's autism might seen to be an island, I think in real life that the majority of them are not islanded. They might appear to NTs as being islanded but they are linked to some degree.

I then changed to the world health organisation statement on what health is, while it is not so poetic it is very close to my own views on what a state of health is

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Well, let's see. My signature is from Poe. It's from her "Haunted" CD which holds a very special place in my heart right now. I think it just epitomizes the last year and some odd months of my life. My ex husband made me afraid of everything. Worst of all, he made me believe that he was more than he was. More evil, more knowing, more powerful. I just had to make a decision in my life at some point that said, "are you going to continue to be afraid, or are you going to grow?" I decided that being afraid was really not helping the situation any. It wasn't accomplishing anything. It didn't matter what the truth was or how I fought for the truth against all of his lies, he was still going to tell the lies and there was nothing that I could do to change it. People were still going to believe what ever and I couldn't change that.

So, in my own defense, I had to stand up and say that this was me. That I couldn't be afraid. That what he said and thought and did didn't matter. That I'm the one that's important here. Somehow I have to have faith that it will all come out in the wash. So, all the things that I was afraid to nurture and let grow, I let die with him. I've had to learn to plant them, cultivate them, and watch them grow since then. I'm recovering, I guess. I'm not afraid. I can't be afraid, because then he wins.

It is simply the full botanical classification for genus Acacia,
Which happens to be my username.
I chose Acacia, because these trees have so many endearing qualities to me.

As to WHY I use all of this Latin plant-lingo...
This is a good example of what happens in my head when I am around anything plant-related.
Let's say I'm out driving. I look around at the landscape passing by. Every tree/bush/plant of any kind is run through a taxonomic register in my mind... I almost involuntarily classify every plant that I see.

Of course, this stuff was one of my first hints that I might have Asperger's. Apparently not everyone is so obsessed with plants that they cannot help but scientifically organize every single one they are around.

My Acacia farnesiana is in full bloom right now, come to think of it...

Yah! I can imagine. Eventhough I dont like it to hot, you kind of reminds me of summer. Must admit that I like summer and springtime better than winter,so.. Florida, heh.. Is it now that I meet myself in the door?

I see what you mean and feel it's a great vision in your mind. Do you really think this will ever come true?
I wish for it, you may do, but the spirit, my**** ,will maybe never do!

I was rather depressed in my mid-thirties, if fact I spent five days in the anti-suicide ward of a local hospital before signing myself out against medical advice. I wasn't really suicidal; much as I would have liked to leave this world, I had already decided that I would not take matters into my own hands. However, if God were to make that decision for me, that would have been great.

My signature is the end of a prayer I used to pray in those days asking Him to do so:
Lord, take me out of here
I don't like it here
I don't belong here
I am not like normal people
I don't even like normal people

Number six. I always felt as if that series never went deep enough. I've always meant to find out about the writters but never have. A good choice for a sig in my humble opinion.
Mine is from exactly what I always heard not only from my own mother but from the mothers of all my friends.
I was not a very good boy as a lad.

Mine is basically the SpongeBob theme song with "SpongeBobRocksMao" replacing "SpongeBob SquarePants."
I put it there because I like it and I wanted people to know I'm a SpongeBob fanatic. It just seems to fit in with the username and avatar. :)

I thought mine was self explanatory, until I had a few people assume it was about parenting kids with AS, not AS people with kids. But past that little bit of info, it's self explanatory.
