But no, definitly didn't mean "go be NT", lol. I tried that for a while, and it sucked.

Yeah, I never really tried. I seem to get some decent friends though just being myself but they are outcasts themselves just neurotypically outcasts.

I don't think that's true even though everyone agrees. My reasoning is that almost 95% of the sarcasm l like (southpark for instance) or that I say, people can't get. How can that be low form if nobody is even able to "get" it? It's BS, good sarcasm is high level wit. It's so high that it flies past most peoples heads.

Southpark is basically 30 minutes of pure sarcasm, and most people would rather watch family guy.

I judge good comedy based on what percentage of the population are able to get it.

Another example is Napoleon Dynamite. It's basically an hour and a half of sarcasm. Again most people can't "get" it.

Plus I think us bright people need sarcasm to help keep us sane in a world of idiots.

I will finish with my favorite quote. "Those who pretend to be perfect make it hard for those of us who really are."

I didn't really agree with hale_bopp just because I don't really think it's the lowest form of wit I think it's stupid but not that stupid. I also like South Park, at least the parts I understand which is most of the stuff they as long as they didn't do it based off a movie I never saw or something in the news I didn't know about.

Good sarcasm is the highest form of wit, that's obvious based on the fact very few people can understand it. It's the only humor that can't be explained. You can try explain napoleon dynamite to a person that doesn't get it all day and it wont work.

That is probably the reason why is gets a bad rap. All the people that don't get it label it " low form" so they don't look dumb.

Oh OK, you just said "good sarcasm" now I have no problem with good sarcasm, I think it it's great. For me the more random it is the better it is, the stuff that makes NTs go, "WTF?" I love THAT kind of sarcasm. You know how you can be like, "I hate this video game!" but you don't hate ALL video games. Now if you hate video games in general but like, say, Wii Fit then you don't really hate ALL video games. That is like what I was saying, I hate sarcasm in general but if it's good sarcasm than no one can really hate it because it has to be good like if you came up with it yourself then you most likely think it's good and therefore all good sarcasm id good. Now let me go to sleep, my head hurts...

Oscar Levant to astutely point out: "A pun is the lowest form of humor- if you didn't think of it first."

Sarcasm is not any form of wit at all. Wit has no forms. Wit is wit. Sarcasm is rather related to a form of humor. And in this case we may say, that it is a bitter sort of humor, but not any lower or higher sort. There is no such thing as low form of humor either.

I'm always extremely sarcastic, but I can never tell when other people are being sarcastic. That might be a problem...

I don't like sarcasm very much, but it's part of our culture as well as other cultures.

And I have a hard time with it too. Often I can't recognise sarcasm when I hear it, and responding to it is equally difficult. I have to try my best to ignore it because if I attempt sarcasm, the chances of me making a faux pas are high because it's not intuitive to me.

This is the latest of several posts lately about sarcasm, so it's obviously a difficulty for many Aspies. It's intriguing how the Aspie populace is split in terms of their ability with sarcasm. I would think that the more Aspergy you are, the less sarcasm will be intuitive for you.

I don't mind sarcasm in moderation. A person that does it too much just gets on my nerves.

yeah, I'd get into trouble saying something like "well, if you like that, I have a contract; all it will cost you is your immortal soul...;)" but again, it depends on the context.

I would definiftely get fired if I said something like that but I guess it would depend on if they thought it was funny and didn't report me.

Sarcasm is like the girl that wasn't meant to be with me, she hangs out with me and makes me feel comfortable enough to work with her, but as soon as someone else works her towards me she leaves. In other words, I am the most bloody well sarcastic person you will ever meet, but when someone else is sarcastic to me I get lost to the point of taking it literally. One of the people I work with, a team leader, is so sarcastic about everything, and knows I am lost every time, and then says "you realize I was being sarcastic?" Of course I try to shrug it off... Next time I will be like yeah, I'm AS and don't get sarcasm as it is an under developed social skill of mine, if ytou were ASD you'd probably be the same way, and say that sarcasticly.

luckily my family has used sarcasm constantly (in a fun way), usually i'm able to pick up on it if its them, otherwise its usually lost on me and i'll appear for lack of a better term "slow".

I realized that I never knew that there was a difference between irony and sarcasm. I used to think I liked sarcasm but it's actually irony...

Sarcasm can be funny if it's a joke between friends who understand it, if not, it's pretty rude and not interesting at all. My philosophy professor used what he called "irony" all the time but I know realize that he used sarcasm a lot too... it gave me the impression that he felt superior to everyone.
