Jett Travolta died today......
with all due respect, when i see threads like these i think it is just plain absurd.
sure, i think scientology is a load of codswollop.
but hey folks, chill out on the conspiracy theory stuff involving celebrities.
it only dilutes what is a very important issue - namely the treatment of children with difficulties.
I was wondering why some of you were mentioning autism so I googled it and it showed up on webpages.
They deny his autism because they say his special needs were caused by toxic carpet cleaning chemicals.

My shrink told me when I was 17 some parents like to blame their child's problems on stuff and find excuses for why their children act a certain way than saying it's caused by a condition they have.
But I am not sure if it was doctors that tried placing the label on him and the parents wouldn't take it or the people are placing it on him.
I don't diagnose just by looking at someone, especially if they are being guided by their father and not saying a word. That could be something, not just autism. There are conditions out there that share the same signs. Nothing wrong to suspect it.
I don't know that Scientology is the issue here - Burt Bacharach's daughter, Nikki, was a similar embarrassment to her parents (moreso to Burt I believe) and they put her in an institution as a teenager, she committed suicide a year or so ago at about 40. I'm still a bit haunted by it because I always loved Burt Bacharach's music, but it seems he's a creep too. There was very little detail on her life given out at the time too.
I looked it up too and even though this site looks more like a celeb gossip site it shows a bit of evidence that Jett may have been autistic.
“Once,” reports Kenny, “when Kelly took him to the movies, Jett started to have a meltdown and Kelly pointed at the nanny and ordered, ‘Take care of it.’”
“Jett does not speak at all,” confirms Kenny. “He has not even been taught how to communicate.
Also wouldn't being allergic to carpet cleaning products be a symptom of autism? I get reactions from stuff like that.
sad and wierd. poor Jett, RIP.
Actually, OFFICIALLY, you are not supposed to leave a minor to his/her own devices like that. You would think that John Travolta would have had someone there. It is TOO easy to fall, and the potential for a concussion is always possible. BTW 80% of those with kawasaki disease are under 5 and kids over 8 are rarely affected! The symptoms are almost like the flu mixed with an allergic reaction, and the major result can be a damaged heart and arteries.
I just read that some children with Kawasaki disease can have co-morbid Autism, or autism like symptoms.

he may or may not have been. it's the voyeursim that irks me, and getting so intently involved in the issue of a celebrity in this manner. kind of irks me. for god's sake, whatever the weird issues of the travolta clan - give 'em all a break. they have jsut lost a son.

while I won't get into scientology as a religion I have to say they are right about psychology. They may go to extreme with it but pyschology in its current form is a matter of opinion and guesswork. If Jett did have autism or as its not like they could do anything except try to limit symptoms and then you have to worry about getting a psychologist thats good for that purpose. I am constantly astounded by the fact that psychologists don't seem competent, myself having several instances of incompetence when I had depression and later when I had to be the person to say well maybe I have AS.
Another example of how scientology is a dangerous cult. Anyways, I feel sorry for the guy, having lost his son to his religious beliefs. I would have done anything for a kid I know, even if I have no relation to him, just because I believe that the kids of today are the tomorrow we hope to create. I have been to Sick Kids in Toronto, and every time I am there, I almost end up in tears over what I see there, the suffering these kids are going through, and the fact that many (even a small percentage is too many for me) might not make it to see tomorrow. It saddens me to know that such a dangerous cult has claimed another innocent life, one that could have been preserved if it weren't for the demonic grasp of the scientologist cult.
No; they could have done a great deal for him if he had autism and they admitted it and tried to help. Communication, for one; if he didn't speak then they could've tried to either teach him speech or teach him to sign or teach him to point to pictures or any number of communication strategies. There's lots of things you can teach an autistic person. Just because there's no cure (thank goodness) doesn't mean that you should sit home and do nothing. That's as stupid as sitting home and letting your NT child off school. Kids need to learn things to get along in the world and autistics are no different. Honestly I think it's just plain negligent that they didn't treat his seizures--if they could've been controlled, this might not have happened. Not to mention that seizures are even worse for autistics than they are for typical kids, in terms of development; you can get some serious developmental delay from seizures, and that makes autism much harder to work with.

But there IS a scientology conspiracy! I've BEEN to the celebrity center ( http://www.scientology.cc/en_US/index.html ), and spoken to the staff! I know more about that stuff than many do. LRH is somehow VERY respected even though it is WELL KNOWN that he:
1. Made up, and oddly used, words to provide confusion and have more words, as he was paid by the word.
2. He wrote a book that seemed part occult and part psychology, but there were "secrets"!
3. He said the way to control, and become rich, was to "start a religion"!
4. He created a psuedo religion, and built it up into an ENORMOUS enterprise!
Lesser known FACTS
1. They have a GIGANTIC staff that tries to act middle or even UPPER class, but are really quite lower class, in income and attitude. Many couldn't live on what they make but are supported behind the scenes in a kind of monastery type atmosphere.
2. They have their own language, patterned after one he used in his books. It SOUNDS like english, and may even use english words with archaic meanings, but it probably differs more from american english than british english does. Be careful, some words do NOT mean what they appear to, etc....
3. They put everyone through a liedetector test that they call "auditing" using a GSRM that they call an "e-meter". If you say anything wrong, you can end up in front of an "ethics officer". He, or I guess She, will try to get you to THEIR way of thinking. It is almost like being accused of MURDER! They act like the copys on "law and order". And YEP, I ended up infront of an "ethics officer". They at least HAD an ethics book for sale. I wish I bought one. It reads more like a revenge and spy book than one on ethics.
4. They have LOTS of other profit centers. An Emeter, that is maybe $10 worth of parts, can cost TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars! The "purification rundown" which is relatively cheap, can cost a LOT! Of course, they have cruises, hotels, etc... MAN, it sounds like I am making this up, but I am NOT.
5. They have become known as a powerful multimedia meeting place. MANY of the people at the celebrity center, that DON'T work there, are either stars, or WANT to be.
BTW as much as 3/4 of the stuff I stated here is stuff they DON'T want revealed.
I'm not sure if your referring to my post but if you are your jumping from point a to c a psychologist doesn't teach communication that I know of. You need special teachers for that. What I'm saying is the basic point of scientologies war on psychology is correct psychology as it stands now is a psuedoscience. Now they take it too far to an extreme I agree with that for instance Tom Cruise's comments to Brooke Shields because if it works for her why knock it? Sometimes things work I'm saying if you take out medication and talk about normal psychologists alot of them are incompetent due to the current nature of psychology.
Anything else I won't comment on because quite frankly I don't know the whole situation with John Travolta's son as this is the first time I heard that his son might be autisitic.

i said "conspircy theory stuff concerning celebrities."
I actually know a fair bit about scientology and what a crock it is. i am not disputing that. it's totally absurd.
that wasn't the point i was making. i just find it really weird that a bunch of people want to spend an arvo (or whatever it is depending on the time zone) talking about celebrities and the ins and outs of their lives and their kids, when they don't even know the people. seems like voyeuristic social gossip crap if you ask me.
and ps. i do know the travoltas are scientologists and i do understand this therefore colurs the issue in relation to how they may or may not deal with their children.
please pm me when a more interesting topic arises. i'm outa here.... i'll leave you to the gossip mags.
