On disabililty and it sucks. SSI alone, isn't enough to get by on. I would love to work, but my anxiety goes through the roof, and i spend all of my "free time" worrying and trying to recouperate before I have to go back to work. Same way with going to school. I do well with things that I like to do on my own time. I have a difficult time working for others becasue I feel that I am always letting them down. I always need positive reinforcement and verification that I am doiing a good job at something. Plus, my memory is horrible recently and just keeps getting worse.

I was alternating between full time school and full time work for the past 4 years while getting my degree. After my freshman year my dad lost his job and I was supporting myself through school from that point forth.

I start my "real" job next week.

Even if I did get a diagnosis, unless they direct deposited the money without my consent I wouldn't accept disability, mostly because I don't feel at all like I'm disabled. There is nothing stopping me from being just as successful as everyone else. Yeah sometimes I might have to put in some extra effort, but as far as I'm concerned that's nothing more than a slight bump in the road, not a wall that would require a check in the mail.

Can you work part time and get disability or SSA part time? I do great work, but 40 hours a week just kills me. I spend all the time I am not at work just decompressing and getting ready for the next week of work, and it is killing me. ( well, now, that would be a solution, eh?)

Yes, you can work part-time and still collect disability benefits. Your monthly payment will be adjusted according to the amout that you earn, on the side. I don't know the exact limits placed on the number of hours that you may work, or the amount earned, but it should be fairly easy to look up, if you are interested. Or, you can go to the SS website and get their phone number, so you can call them directly and ask for info. :)

I've always heard if you work too many hours on a consist basis that SS will take away benefits the next time a person has a review come up saying well if they can work 20 hrs then hey they can work 40 hours. Or does that apply only to SSD and not SSI?

That is definitely a possibility. Every case is different, but, in order to get approved in the first place, you must prove that you are unable to work. If you do choose to work part-time somewhere, I would recommend only working irregular hours, and nothing with a "set" schedule. Basically, don't give SSI/SSD any reason to think you are able to work a regular schedule, or you are at risk of losing your benefits. That sucks, I know, but it is reality. Our government is a joke when it comes to providing for those with real mental disabilities.

When I worked full time, I did not get any from from SSI. But if my hours are cut, then I get some. I should be getting unwanted money from them by the 12th.

I was on it and am about to go back on this week.
I can never manage to get a job anyway.
Resume and cover letters are perfect, but no one wants to hire me.

I work part time as a consultant. I'm too low functioning for most full time jobs but am probably too high functioning for disability.

I can't work, but I'm not on disability, yet.

Yep. I'd rather be out there, rolling in the mud, shooting at people with a rifle and getting shot at, but alas, this autism-thingy is quite impeding.

The best I can really attain is an online degree through a uni, and that's what I'm working on.

am unable to work and get various disability benefits for having lf autism/high complex needs - disability living allowance [high rate care component and high rate mobility component],income support with severe disability component and enhanced[?] component.
most of it is actually spent towards care charges and a care debt caused by the council/.

I live off student grants up until some 6 months ago. thankfully I managed to finish my degree before I turned 26, which is too old to receive any money for studying full-time and not working. I'm undiagnosed so right now I live only off my savings and no one seems to want to hire me :(

I can't get a diagnosis anyway so I am doomed to either work s**t jobs or live in a carton under a bridge.

There's a third choice, purchase a .357 Magnum revolver and take down the scum of the streets with well-aimed headshots; someone has to do it.

It won't be pretty (actually, it'll be beautiful), but you'll be a superhero, and that's way cool.

I never liked cartons anyway.

I am currently in the process for disability. My problem is not that I cannot work. My problem is I cannot get a job that involves an interview. I will have to go through therapy to try to stop some of my involuntary eye movements.
