My first avatar: Harry Potter at the pensieve went with my user name.

Now I just prefer using my image. I like this place enough for people to know what I really look like and know my real name. Well, I wish I could change my screen name to my real name.

I use this avatar because it's almost exactly what I would look like if I were a character from a Japanese cartoon show; I have the same hairstyle, spacey/shy expression and relatively young appearance. It's how I envision myself whenever I use my imagination. It's almost become a sort of alter-ego for me, another persona that gets to do things I could never do in real life, most notably hanging out with a bunch of male vampires. None of which are Cullens, by the way. *gag*

I love martial arts, ninja, etcetera and my avatar is Rock Lee from the anime Naruto and he strives to be great, not the best just great as himself to prove to others that he can become a great ninja despite his disadvantages. (has a congenital birth defect which makes him unable to control chakra very well) I admire that and want to be like that and that is why he is my avatar, I do like the way I look even though I think I don't look very good at all but I don't want to run around WP with my afro taking up my avatar and attracting too much attention...

I often have nature shots because I love nature and it is one of my interests. The current one is an aquarium but it isnt clear at this size.

I'm starting to form a theory about avatars.
Could it be that people use a cartoonish or graphic avartar so they don't have to see their own faces associated with their posts?
Could it be because of vanity and ego and wanting to adopt a persona that they think is better than they are in real life?
It's interesting that people post a real picture in the picture threads but still use a graphic as an avatar.
What does ones avatar have to say about the person who adopts it?
Tell us about your avatar if you want to.
Who else has a theory about it?

Well, I won't speak for anyone else, but my avatar (along with my moniker) says that I'm a 15th century Romanian ruler who was known for impaling his enemies--along with a few other atrocities.

I became fascinated with this fellow after first hearing about him on the radio and then subsequently looking him up and reading about him.

If I could grow a moustache like his, I might be willing to simply use my own photo instead of his. :)

The repetitive pattern, swirling inward, constantly repeating, with complexity, and yet, simplicity. The fact that it incidentally forms a Magen David suggests my belief system. The fact that it is not my face suggests that I would prefer that my circle of coworkers not find me online.

Mine is one of the only decent pictures of myself that I have. I always wonder what the different people I'm talking to on forums look like, just to be able to put a face with the name, so I put my picture as my avatar to take away the mystery for other curious people.

Mine shows that when I joined, I had no clue how to upload or re-size my own avatar. So, I chose one from the selection here at WP. Yes, I did choose one that somewhat resembled my appearance and personality, from what was available. I could change it now, but, I don't really see where it would make that much difference. I'll leave it the same, for now. :)

I don't put up my face because I'm as ugly as a mud fence...10 miles of bad road, etc...;)

Actually, no one's taken my picture in about 10 years, so it'd be false advertising...;)

I play around a lot with 3d art, so I did this one just as a picture. In one way, it represents what it feels like to be an AS in society, the abrading of your personality by socialization.

This was done in a landscaping program called Bryce, a Poser character called Michael 1, some texture work in a modeling program called Wings 3d, put into the composition to come up with this...

The original pic is entitled "Life on Venus, the first half-second" which also shows what would happen to you if you actually were on the surface of Venus (between the acid in the wind, the horrendous pressures, and the high heat, this is sort of what it would look like...;)

Wow, I had wondered about your avatar. I was thinking something way more subtle and boring, learning about people's avatars is cool.

I used to have my real life picture as my avatar, but then I decided that I didn't want every random person on this site to know what I look like in real life. (I'm a minor for one thing)

The mole in my avatar is Resetti from the game Animal Crossing, and I chose his picture because he represents myself in a way. Resetti can be calm and friendly at times, but once you do something to tick him off (reset or shut off the game without saving), there's no stopping his tirade. Anyone who's ever had a serious debate with me should know this. :)

Isn't that Sid from Rock N' Rule? That movie kicks ASS! My avatar looks like a phallic symbol! It's really Apollo 11, but it rocks anyway!

I admit it, I am in that picture over there to the left.... hiding behind that tree, because I'm so ashamed of my own face.

Really, the Acacia is one of my favorite trees and it is rich in symbolism which I identify with. Besides that, it is a robust and easy grower, has a beautiful natural form, fragrant flowers, numerous ethnobotanical uses, and is native to the arid landscapes of the world that I enjoy studying.

What does that say about me?
That I like plants more than people?
Seems pretty obvious to me

If you don't believe me, check the taxonomy down there.......

My avatar is a picture of an animal (a cat, if you're wondering), because my screenname is 'animal'. It used to kind of be my signature in the real world, too. Or at least, I drew it a lot. Also, I wanted to showcase my savant-like artistic skills.
