Direction you look when you think? A gateway into the mind..
What does that mean?
First you looked to the past
then you looked to the future?
What does that mean?
First you looked to the past
then you looked to the future?
What an interesting reply
Now I shall have to ponder that.

I don't think you can edit a poll...
I should have previewed this first.
Bottom Right. If we're talking about the direction my face tends to point. If it's eyes only, probably mid-bottom center.
and for something that they anticipate happening in the future they will glance a milli-second to the right.
So from what I understand, the left hemisphere of your brain deals with facts, and the right deals with creativity.
So if you are thinking about something that happened (fact) then you would look to the left, but if you are thinking of something that might happen (creativity) you'd look to the right.
This also goes in line with lying, if you are telling a lie, you would be using the creative side of your brain to do so, therfore you would looking to the right.
But! Just because a hemisphere is in a certain direction physically, that doesn't mean you have to look in that direction, I mean say you tell a fact, and that hemisphere is on the left, you might look to the right because if you draw a straight line through your eyes looking to the right, it would point to the left hemisphere, but if you looked to the left, that'd be too bent.
Also autistic people apperently are more visual thinkers, so the directions they look could possibly be different than NTs, but I don't know.
I wonder if, visual thinking, left handedness, dyslexia, etc could effect which direction you look?
(Right)___________________________________________________(left)
This are the visual accessing cues for a "normally organized" right-handed person.
Up and to the Left
Indicates: Visually Constructed Images (Vc)
If you asked someone to "Imagine a purple buffalo", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Constructed" a purple buffalo in their mind.
Up and to the Right
Indicates: Visually Remembered Images (Vr)
If you asked someone to "What color was the first house you lived in?", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Remembered" the color of their childhood home.
To the Left
Indicates: Auditory Constructed (Ac)
If you asked someone to "Try and create the highest the sound of the pitch possible in your head", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Constructed" this this sound that they have never heard of.
To the Right
Indicates: Auditory Remembered (Ar)
If you asked someone to "Remember what their mother's voice sounds like ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Remembered " this sound.
Down and to the Left
Indicates: Feeling / Kinesthetic (F)
If you asked someone to "Can you remember the smell of a campfire? ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they used recalled a smell, feeling, or taste.
Down and To the Right
Indicates: Internal Dialog (Ai)
This is the direction of someone eyes as they "talk to themselves".
The Gist of it...
How this information is used to detect lies:
Example: Let's say your child ask's you for a cookie, and you ask them "well, what did your mother say?" As they reply "Mom said... yes." they look to the left. This would indicate a made up answer as their eyes are showing a "constructed image or sound. Looking to the right would indicated a "remembered" voice or image, and thus would be telling the truth.
These are for a "normally organized" person, I don't know if they are referring to coordination-wise or NT, or um 'NO'? Hah
So if we are differently organized (DO?) then the directions could have differences.
Our "VCs" are different, and our "ACs"are definitely different so we may look in different directions than in the image. Infact with how our brains work, you could say that all of the visual accessing cues work differently than NTs or NOs. Remember there is much more to Aspergers and Autism than just social issues.
yes. last night when i read this post i tried to consider whether there was a uniform direction. i do know that my head is actually titled down and right permanently but from that vantage pint i can still look in any direction. (and i do monolgue lot to myself and do a lot of conversation preparation in my brain.)
BUt i have a BIG visual area. lots of movies.
it definitely changes with me.
They'll talk with their eyes closed as if they're reading the information off the inside of their eye lids.
I often do this if there is nowhere I can place my gaze that is free from visual 'stimulus'. The reason is not to see the answer on my eyelids, it's to limit distracting stimulus received through the eyes when open.
I do not believe I look in a particular direction, so much as place my gaze on something non-distracting, or force my eyes out of focus, or alternatively shut out visual distractions entirely by closing my eyes.

I can do all that with eyes open and straight ahead. For the campfire, it can actually smell like the building is burning down, of course, plasterboard and plastics don't smell like oak, and PINE doesn't smell like oak either, so I guess I am safe. Frankly, I never trusted this kind of body language. HECK, I noticed one day I would often rub my nose after answering people. Body language jerks say that means I was LYING, but I was telling the TRUTH! I HAVE lately often closed my eyes, but that is more for a rest than anything else. I have sometimes rolled my eyes up, when closed, just because of how it feels and I might remember better. Imagining the past, future, lying, telling the truth, my eyes don't necessarily move anywhere.
These days, when talking to a group, my eyes go all around, from person to person, but that is because I was told people like it better. I got into sometimes making hand gestures, but they don't necessariliy mean anything either.
Me too but my eyes point slightly to the left.
I remember once a teacher said that looking up helps us remember things.
All I know is when I look forward I can't really think properly, which is probably why when I talk to someone I can't remember things quite as well.
Sorry, I either look straight up or I close my eyes. I can tell from the perplexed looks on the others' faces that either I am taking too long to ponder or it is just weird.
