I voted inappropriate because there is way too much personal info people already divulge on here which no doubt will eventually come back to bite them. Same thing with social sites like Facebook and MySpace eventually cause people problems in the real world specifically with employers.

That said I think the interview idea will not work on WP. For one there will be people who disagree with what the person being interviewed has said and start posting their opposition to the opinion or try to start a debate within the interview thread. Also you'd be relying that the interviewee come back every day to continue answering the interview questions. Also Aspies have problems following through with what is demanded of them so they just won't complete answering all your questions if not done all in one setting.

This kind of reminds me of the video documentary about Harry Crumb. The critics said it was disguesting yet those folks who have an odd bent loved it. Someone I respect said sometihing to the effect of it being so dark, weird, sickening and yet enlightening that she was compelled to watch it out of a morbid fasination.
If people like us continue to hide in holes there is no way the regular world will ever understand what we're really like.

i would participate in this, but i think it should be members only, for cautionary purposes. i think it could be good practice for all of us too if we're all asking as well as answering questions....one of the things i know a lot of us struggle with is socialising in groups (too many conversations going on at once) so this could help us slow it down into a format that is easier to follow. also it would be nice to get to know people here better. i've only been here for a few months and i don't post tonnes, but i feel at home here so i would like to participate more :)

I think it's a good idea, if like everyone else already pointed out that it was in the Members Only forum. Maybe have each interview on an individual thread? Otherwise, I think the thread would get way too long, and disorganized, and I think it would be possible to easily overlook some people while discussing other interviews. That way everyone would have a chance to be 'heard' so to speak. I think some really interesting discussions would come out of this.

I agree with Serenity! (Wow, that saved time... )

I also agree. Perhaps even number these interviews, and have some sort of "master list" with names, so it would be easy to go back and re-read or find specific interviews.

I'd go for it provided none of the questions/answers could be abused maliciously for identity theft or could identify me in real life.

I wanted to clarify a few things:

1. No identity questions would be asked by anyone, and if anyone in the public asked one, I advise STRONGLY against answering, same as in any WP thread.

2. Needless to say, all T&C continue applying as in all other threads on WP.

3. Of course, each interview would be a stand-alone thread.

4. Unless the mods consider them irrelevant to this forum, I'd like to keep the interviews public and not only for members, to give them wider exposure. This is about getting to know Aspies more in depth, to learn from their experience, to learn what worked and didn't work for them, as well as (or even more than) about getting to know each other better among members.

Sounds good to me. I would read them.

Sounds good. Number 3 will help keep the interviews more organized.

As far as number 4, others have expressed a desire to keep these in the "Member Only" section, but I would be more than happy to volunteer for an interview in any of the public forums. (Either General or Getting to Know Each Other seem like good bets) I am circumspect enough not to reveal any personally identifying information, and I don't mind any non-identifying information about myself being public. I'll watch this thread to see if you take me up on this offer.

I think it sounds fascinating...

I'd personally love to hear more of Merle's story, she's a really interesting individual, and many others besides.

I happily volunteer myself, although I'm fairly young still so probably not all that interesting.

(o) Good idea, BUT: ------------------------------------

There are many regular posters I'd like to know more about, and I'd like to interview them, right here on a thread. Do you think it's a good or bad idea?

The questions would be open-ended, leaving room to answer or not, as little or as much as the guest desires. No compromising, unsafe or nosey questions, of course, and I repeat, there's always the perfectly welcome option of saying "I'll skip that one. Next question." The interview could be stopped by the guest at any time as they feel like, with absolutely no hard feelings. The only requirement would be to share seriously, since hopefully many members would be reading and benefitting from another's story.

People could PM me to volunteer themselves to be interviewed or to suggest members they'd like me to interview. Or they could make the suggestions on this thread.

Everyone would be welcome to ask the guest questions too, as long as they remain respectful and serious at all times.

Will there be any form of monetary compensation for our stories?

Fnord, is money the only thing you care about? I highly doubt there would be any money involved in this.

Yeah, as soon as I saw Fnord's name under "Last Post," I knew this would be the question.

Fnord, sometimes people do things for the benefit of other people without any monetary compensation. It doesn't mean they're being taken advantage of. The world would be a lot colder, meaner place if people only acted out of financial self-interest.

I thought he was joking. Exactly how does he expect to be paid?
