It does, I agree.

The prices given on the room-rates page need 5€ adding to them apparently between 1 May and end September, which means very few rooms for less than 45€, unless organise to share two appartments, aswell, at 45€ each, one person in the living room in each.

I have no idea about availability. It may already be booked up. I guess I'd better find out, before we get too excited!

I just rang them up, and apparently most rooms are still available for that weekend. ... ... He asked me to complete their enquiries contact page when I know more about exact numbers etc.

I urgently need more feedback from people who want to go! ... ... well, relatively urgently :)

Do you have to pay a dipostit to book the rooms?

I will look into my travel to get there and check my passport is valid before you book.

I think I am going to come even if no one else does, it looks so lovely.

For this kind of hotel, probably/almost certainly, especially for a big booking.

Which is why a chain hotel, the Etap in Avignon for instance, would be less demanding on our capacities for longterm engagement/commitment, long-range planning, and group coordination, ( because they don't ask for a deposit ). :?:

Hey yes, count me in! That last weekend in May is good for me, as I´ve said. oh yeah, and invite Daniel Tammet; why not? Maybe he´s a member of Wrong Planet too? :) Is he French? Does he speak English??? I used to speak French back in my school days, but I am afraid that after learning German, it seems to have knocked all the French out of my head. :(

Do you know how much the single rooms for that hotel you are interested in would be, for that weekend?

Two hotels seem the most appealing, ( being in the town, so we wouldn't need to use buses ), for different reasons.

1 )The rooms at the Monclar, because it is pretty, etc. :wink

None of these are en-suite ! !! they have a washbasin but no toilet:

2 exceedingly small rooms 30€/night each
1 very small double 35€/night ( price for room with one person using it )

Some of these have showers, but none of them have a toilet:

4 modest-sized doubles 45€ ( price for room with one person using it )
1 average double 50€ ( price for room with one person using it )

There are another 4 rooms with bathrooms and balconies for 55€-70€.

There are also two small "apartments", in/next to the hotel, at 90€ each one, ( if two people are using them ), for a double bedroom and living room with fold-out double bed.

2 ) And rooms at the Etap ( chain ) Hotel, in the same area of town, which would offer far greater booking-flexibility, room-availability, and a guaranteed level of cleanliness etc, but isn't as pretty! :

Single room with bathroom : 44€

The cheapest rooms are in a chain hotel near the TGV station, ( a couple of km's out ), for 34€ per room, without bathroom.

I talked to my mum for a minute and she said she was happy to baby sit and she will help me arrange my travel so thats good.

Perhaps we should book individually with the hotel monclar, then if we pull out or cant go its our own money thats lost rather than yours. I think they must take deposits from abroard as they would get that a lot.

And if others want to join us at a later date they can always stay in one of the other hotels that is near by.

I wouldn't have put down a deposit for anyone else anyway, but I am worried that some/many people will hesitate to put one down themselves until they are sure enough people really are going, ( to make it worthwhile ), by which time the cheapest and/or best rooms would no longer be available.

I had looked at the photos, but not the videos. They're funny. The way they show them opening the door so they couldn't be cheating and showing you another room!

But it's true that it does look ok. Not exactly beautiful inside, but ok. And their garden/terrace space looks really nice.

So, is that what we're going for?

I don't want to go there if it's just us two though; not that I would mind spending time with you  but I would prefer knowing we were going to be a group in a hotel like that. So I am going to wait to hear from at least Morgana and ManErg about it before booking anything.

Otherwise I am likely to go to the Etap. Not only is it calmingly impersonal/anonymous, formulaic/"safe", but all the rooms are fully en-suite, :D ( if more expensive than the three cheapest rooms at Monclar ).

So basically I am dithering until I know which hotel other people would prefer.

I would prefer it if there were only two or three of us, because I would feel less pressurised/intimidated by the personnel of a chain hotel than in a family-run one. But if there were going to be four of us choosing Monclar I'd be ok about it.

http://www.etaphotel.com/fr/hotel-2603- ... ndex.shtml

The price of 39€ on the page is for now, or special bookings before a certain date or something, ( will confirm that ), not May, which is 44€/night I found out by filling in their tiny calendar and booking window etc.

I couldn't find a picture of the hotel there, though I am sure I saw one earlier today while searching. It is a white three floored building with a triangular porch over the entrance, and square windows. It is all modern/new, and feels almost like being on an overnight ferry somehow, ( spare/compact/efficient, no "chi-chi" as the french say; ie: no frilly/fluffy extras  ) . I love the way they are always the same/a safe space, and there is no unwelcome personal/pseudo-friendly attention from the staff.

But Monclar would definitely be more "french"/atmospheric, and the terrace looks good, so I understand you wanting to go there.

I just hope ManErg, Morgana, or some others, ( Greentea, are you still interested in a weekend away with WP'ers ? ), post soonish to say which they would prefer. :? Though there is no rush for the Etap hotel, so it won't be a disaster even if Monclar books up before we get round to it.
