I think I had a sleep seizure, how can I tell?
I'm an RN and have neuro-Behcet's, a souvenir from my time in the Army in the Persian Gulf. I have had two daytime grand mal seizures and a few night time seizures and I can tell you that everyone is different. Sometimes, I know that I had a nocturnal seizure because I urinated on the bed or soiled it or both. Sometimes, I did neither. I googled "vivid dreams after seizures" tonight specifically because I'm sure I had an "aura" last night. I started feeling shaky and out-of-touch. When I went to sleep I had so many intensely vivid dreams that I remembered so clearly. I slept for eleven hours and woke up feeling hung over or punch drunk and still very sleepy for the rest of the day. Now, here it is, 2am CT, and I've got my groove on. You sound like you might have had a seizure or a type of very vivid dream. Are you on any vitamins that might have accumulated a great deal of Vitamin B6 in your system? B6 causes very vivid dream recall. In large amounts, it can also become somewhat toxic and cause spasms and numbness of the extremities. I've bitten my tongue and lip during daytime seizures but not nocturnal ones. But, like I said, everyones seizures are different, so it's really hard to say. And I've never had an EEG that showed positive for seizure acivity although my grand mals were a sight to behold from what I've been told. Your best bet is to mention it to your care specialist and take it from there. If it's a seizure disorder, the sooner you're on anti-convulsant meds, the better.
I took care of a lady with grand mal seizures. My job was to check on her every 10-15 minutes. Based on what I needed to watch for in her, I would say probably no.
But I do have hypnagogic hallucinations and conscious dreaming, and what you described seems to sound more like REM problems than an actual seizure.
But you didn't soil yourself, hurt yourself, or wake up completely dazed and perform daily rituals at 2am (like get dressed for your day, go make your lunch for work, go take a shower, or wander aimlessly), so it doesn't seem like it would be a serious seizure.
Though it never hurts to ask. You could ask about minor seizures, perhaps.

I'm epileptic and usually know if I had a seizure during my sleep because... eh... I usually wet the bed. Also, when I wake up my muscles are really sore and sometimes (but not always because I sleep in a big bed), I fall out of bed.
My first sleep seizure was really obvious because I woke up upside down on the floor with wet underwear and ripped apart muscles.
yea know im sorta in the same sitaution with ya. i know im having something wrong, but right now we dont have the time or money to get to a nuerologist, everything were focusign is my surgery, DDD stuff, and school, but i plan to get to one in the next couple months after everything else calmed down. Anyways i kept trying to understand if im having siezures too, and its botherng me, ill lay there watching a movie and my eyes will sorta roll back, and my whole body becomes this weird numb then i jerk back to reality or ill be laying there and then without any of my control my body jerks and my whole body feels so exhausted out of nowhere, or ill be playin a game and i can feel tingles all in my head and i become disoriented and cant walk or anything, or ill stare off into space and jolt back, and in my sleep i woke up a couple times with my muscles aching badly, especially my hands like im closing my fists alittle too tight,, there are times i get this weird aura smell like one time a burnt smell, one time an orange smell, stuff like that. everybody i talk to on siezures says its a possibility, but i still dont know. what u said to me sorta sounds like a siezure but also sounds like somebody said a night terror, the best bet is to go see a neurologist get an eeg done. somebody once told me that sometimes siezures will start out mild but can turn into severe, and its best to get them fixed when their mild. hope u go to the dr, and dont be dumb like me and have to keep putting it off, let us know how it goes if u do, good luck!
