Are they going to have the seats (or perhaps groups of 2) isolatated in little booths? Because I hate sitting next to strangers :P

Would there be a 'no babies allowed' rule? And a no kicking the seats and tapping rule? I hate that whenever I go to movies.

My mom and I usually go to the early showings when no one's there, so we've been really lucky. Unfortunately, it's not perfect every time we go. It never is for anyone.

Screw this theater crap! I've decided that I'll just wait and rent the blu-ray and watch it at home on my 52" TV while sitting on my reclining couch 8)

Crisis averted.

I like going to the cinema. One of the reasons I like going is because it's so dark, you kind of get enveloped by the darkness and you escape into the movie. I don't need the film to be predictable. I like all sorts of films, action, thriller, horror, romcom, international/subtitled whatever...

But I don't like idiots who come into the screening late and wander up and down trying to find their seats. Or people who talk to each other or on their mobile phones. Or people who forget to turn their mobiles off and they ring. Or kids who wander in and out throughout the film, to the snack bar or to the loo or whatever.

I like going...when it's not that crowded. When I have empty seats around me I am fine but whenever people I don't know are closeby I feel a strange discomfort and I compare it to what wild animals might experience when they are around other species. Of course, I know I can't run, hop or fly away like wild animals do, but I do have this uneasiness.
It's not the sound or the lights I have problems with. I do have problems with certain films that I cannot get into watching for some reason. Once I went to see a movie without having a clue what it was about first and bought the ticket based on the title alone. The title looks interesting so I'll like the movie I thought and what a mistake that was! It was the type of movie I find totally boring and cannot pay attention to. I can't even remember the name, shows you how interested I was in it. I ended up walking out ten minutes after it started and into another movie instead.
So, the movie itself matters to me, but taste is entirely subjective.

When I was younger, if someone was close to me it felt like that entire side of my body was on fire. It tingled and was very warm and I couldn't concentrate on anything else. If I was already sitting somewhere and someone came up and sat next to me, I would panic and start to get close to tears and beg a member of my family to switch seats with me. I've gotten better with being around people and now I just feel a general uneasiness and I tend to lean away.

It will not be so dark and not so loud and the fims 'will be predictable' the press said.

I wrote a thread about a movie viewing system (not just the theater) for people on the autistic spectrum. Read it here: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt92421.html. I hope you like it.

Sounds cool. :) I like going to the cinemas but hate the idea of sitting next to a stranger when watching the movie.

Predictability - This could be a good idea. I think I like predictable things, I think that's the reason I never get bored of repeats on TV because I know what's going to happen.

The whole "the movies will be predictable" thing could be refering to showing children's movies.

The entire purpose of the cinema might be to cater to families with autistic children, rather than autistic adults.

A local theatre in my city actually has something similar to this, called "cinebabies". More lighting, less volume, and more tolerance for crying/tantrums.
