Society constantly rewards and punishes us for things that aren't our fault. It's not my fault I'm smart, but it got me a decent job with good pay. It's not my fault I don't have a very attractive personality, but I suffer the consequences. Why should I be allowed to accept the former and b***h about the latter?

I mom use to punish me again and again for the things I would do an it never helped. I couldn't help it in the first place.

I can't believe that's legal. 8O

Why eletric shocks of all things? That's so clinical and creepy.

Especially this day in age, in 2009. You think that they would have stopped doing that in the "Peace and Love Era" of the 1960s.

Doesn't sound like she's treating him like one. 8O

This is shocking, how the hell is this allowed to happen??! !!
It's not a civilised human reaction, it's a Pavlovian reaction. Pavlov's dog was trained to respond to certain stimuli. These children are the same, it's not 'civilising' them into behaving appropriately, it's terrorising them into doing so on pain of punishment. It's fear, not civilisation that makes them comply, it's treating children like animals.

Yes, I think I may have read about Pavlov somewhere once...

I was just talking on YouTube with a 24-year-old named Michael who went to the JRC and it didn't help him at all (and he never got shock treatment, though), and the rules were restrictive (he wasn't allowed to associate with his friends) and other things too. When he replies to my next message, I'll try to get him to come on WP and tell us what went on there. Maybe he knows of Auties or Aspies who were abused there, though I don't think so.

Ya...the "Peace and Love Era" my @$$....I mean, ya had hippies blowing up military compounds and medical buildings and whatnot. REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL peaceful....

You know, one thing I always tell people, when they tell me that "oh, things used to be so moral and wonderful back in the day, culture has rotted since then"..... I tell 'em "if your moral ideas were so great, you'd still have 'em in use".

"Moral" Unquestionable authority of the "back then" came under attack by the feeling-based unquestionable authority of the hippie generation.

People just kept going back and forth. Both are different sides of the same coin; it's all anti-reason.
