I should have precised that by "more socially withdrawn" it was withdrawn from those that can hear or talk (your average human).

As for the above, if i had to be cold and calculative about it, i'd save the one who has the most chance of survival afterwards and who could see to my needs, most likely i'd choose to save my dad, even though both my parents have a job, i'm sure it would be significantly harder on my mom if she was to survive, not to mention having to feed us 3 kids (say what you will, but unequal salary clearly favors males in the western world) <.< (we're all past 18 btw)

See no people: good
Hear no people: good
See and hear no people: double good

Hehe, I took your question literally - as in 'do you prefer the letter x or y' I prefer x as it's symmetrical.

I prefer money to fame/recognition.

With money, I can do and buy whatever I like. Like creating the most unique music in the world or making the best MTV that I just love. But with recognition you are still criticized by some and you may not get the resources you want to do what you love.

i would dislike being blind more than being deaf.

total darkness for the rest of my life would be very bleak. i would be shaking my head and rubbing my eyes for the first year to try and see at least some light, even if it was just a patch of dark grey instead of total blackness.

actually i wondered once what it would be like to be born blind. to never have had any visual stimulus ever.
i realized they would not "see" "black". they would see nothing. "black" is only a visual contrast to light, and is therefore a percept. people who once saw, and then went blind would see black. people who are born blind never see "black" even.
when we shut our eyes, we see black (or dark brown if it is light outside). we see black because of the contrast to usually seeing light.
even if there is no light, we still see a kind of subtle "brain snow" which are like areas of mild autonomous excitement in the empty visual field. try it and pay attention to what you see when you have your eyes shut in a dark place.

but how would it be to see nothing at all? not even black?.
i tried to work it out and i realized that i can see nothing at all behind my head. i do not see black behind my head. i see nothing.
people born blind would see nothing all the way around their head in the same way i see nothing behind my head.
i still can not fathom the sensation though.

i wonder how helen keller ever learned anything. she was deaf and blind from about 18 months old and went on to become a famous and eminent author.
how did she learn all she believed through only tactile stimulation (and possibly olfactory)? she must have been a stellar genius. i can only wonder what she would have become if she had sight and hearing. maybe she would have gone mad.

i do not know.
but i would prefer to be deaf than blind.

I would prefer to be blind since I am already congenitally blind. What I don't understand is why some blind people, when given the chance, would not become sighted. I think of all I could learn about the world through this new sense. If someone asked me to choose the blue pill or the red pill, (red being the cure) I would have to say, "You moron! I would choose red, but I can't tell which one is red."

I've actually thought about this before more than once.

If I had to be one I'd rather be deaf because I like reading and looking at art and stuff too much to give up my sight. Plus, I've always had this weird deep fear of not being able to see. Whenever I wear a blindfold I'm always terrified that I'm going to run into a wall or something. I don't think I could function. If I was deaf I could probably survive, but it wouldn't be fun at all.
